What Is a Speech
• The term ‘speech’ refers to an informal or formal talk given to an
audience.
• Speeches allow you to express your thoughts and opinions to an audience.
• Though anyone can write a speech, its best to understand the purpose of
the speech and the target audience to ensure its effectiveness.
What is the purpose of speeches?

• Introduction: it allows your audience to remember the meat of your
speech versus an over-long introduction or conclusion.
• Body: It is to discusses the main ideas and key concepts of the speech.
• Conclusion: explain the importance of the writer’s message and
allows the speaker to both signal the end of the speech and help the
audience to remember the main ideas.
Technique to emphasis a point in a
speech
• Alliteration: the use of the several words together that begin with the same sound or
letter.
The writer uses the repetition of the letter “A”
• Onomatopoeia: Where a word sounds like the noise it makes.
• Simile: It is a description that says that an object is like an image.
• Metaphor: When you describing Something by comparing in a way that says IS.
• Personification: when you make something that is not human is made to sound human by
attributing human qualities to it.
• Emotive language: dramatic language that stirs emotions in the reader.
Example of speech
• I Am Prepared to die.
• In the speech they repeated ‘AFRICA’ which means it is important and it
is to give the reader of what are they talking about.
