OBJECTIVES:
• -To know the social issues and problems involving the threats of
community and environmental destruction.
• To be encouraged to get involved in programs advocating community
and environmental health.
• To be a part in maintaining and promoting a healthful community
and environment.
• To help you reflect on how healthy your community and environment
are, what activities that adversely affect them and what you should
do to sustain community and environmental health.

-A healthy community reflects a sense of well
being.
-It is the foundation for achieving all other goals
and is essential for a productive society.
-It also helps in building our country’s economy
and in equipping ourselves to be healthier in
order to learn and succeed in life.
● ENVIRONMENT-includes everything that surrounds an
individual.

● Environment also involves human-made conditions that


influence the quality of our lives
●Health is a state of complete
physical, mental, and social well
being. It is the ability to lead a
socially and economically productive

WHAT IS A ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH?

● Environmental Health includes all the


interactions of humans with their
environment and the health consequences of
these interactions.
● It has focused primarily on preventing
diseases caused by contaminated water,
waste, food, insects, and other
environmental pollutants
SOME ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES THAT HAVE A
NEGATIVE IMPACT ON OUR HEALTH.

● Decreased supply of clean water


● Increased pollution in the air
● Accumulation of hazardous waste
WHAT IS A COMMUNITY?
● A community is consist of people who stay or live in one
particular area and exhibit a sense of belongingness.
● A community is not just a collection
of buildings and other structures.
● Members of community share
their knowledge, beliefs, habits,
customs, morals, and laws,
which enables them to live and
work harmoniously.
WHAT IS A HEALTHY COMMUNITY?
● A healthy community is composed of various people who
serve as partners in health care with common vision and
mission and work together harmoniously achieving a
common goal. Thus, health care is available and accessible,
and members are well provided with their basic needs.
Moreover, health and safety are promoted and maintained
within the geographic area as sustained by a clean and
green environment. Water in the community is readily
available and safe as well.

A person’s health is a product of his/her
environment which, in turn, affects the
growth and development of the community.
People living in a healthy community shall
be in place wherein they can have:
A safe, healthy, and livable homes
An access to quality education
A suitable and adequate
employment
Effective transportation
Safe physical activity
Good nutrition
Access to health care
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEALTHY COMMUNITY

1. A clean and safe physical environment


2. An environment that meets everyone’s basic needs
3. An environment that promotes social harmony and actively
involves everyone
4. An understanding of local health and environment issues
5. A community that participates in identifying local solutions to
local problems
6. A community whose members have access to varied
experiences, means of interaction and communication
7. Accessible and appropriate health services and facilities
8. The promotion and celebration of historical and cultural
heritage
9. A diverse and innovative economy
10. A sustainable use of available resources for all
A HEALTHY COMMUNITY CAN IMPROVE PEOPLE’S
HEALTH BY:

● Increasing physical activity and reducing injury.


● Increasing access to healthy food.
● Improving the quality of air and water.
● Minimizing the effects of climate change.
● Decreasing mental health stresses.
● Strengthening the social fabric of a community.
● Providing fair access to livelihood, education, and
resources.
