Potential threats
Australia's geological record: new volcanoes in some states (SA, Vic, Que) have erupted every 2,000 years in the past 40,000 years.
The problem: There hasn't been any big eruption for the past 5,000 years.
=> the significant eruption seems well overdue. A small eruption in Victoria's Western Uplands, may wake hundreds of dormant volcanoes.
Mount Krakatoa, near Java island, Indonesia, erupted in 1883, is one of the most violent volcanic eruption, killed approx 40,000 people. The explosion could be heard about 5000km away. => even people in Syd could hear the sound....
Meanwhile, Daniel Gleeson, a spokesman for the Australian Attorney General's Department, said that the risk of a volcanic eruption was remote, but that general plan were in place to cope with rapid-onset disaster.
Conclusion
According to geologist, at this moment, Australia is supposed to have many volcanoes erupted, especially in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.
Australia government already have a plan about volcanic public education, but it should be given more attention.
