The origins of main fossil fuels, coal,
oil, and gas
Coal, crude oil, and natural gas are all considered fossil fuels because they
were formed from the fossilized, buried remains of plants and animals that
lived millions of years ago. Because of their origins, fossil fuels have a high
carbon content
Extracting fossil fuels: There are 2 main methods for removing fossil fuels
from the ground: “mining and drilling”. Mining is used to extract solid fossil
fuels, such as coal, by digging, scraping, or other wise exposing buried
resources. Drilling is used to extract liquid fossil fuels, such as crude oil.
