Definition Of Culture Shock
Culture is a characteristic, habit and way of developing a certain
group of people in each area, and is passed down from generation to
generation. Culture is also a complex that includes knowledge, beliefs,
arts, morals, laws, customs, and other abilities and habits acquired by
humans as members of society.
Culture shock occurs because of the trauma that is experienced when
someone moves to a different or foreign culture as they move from their
culture to another culture.

So, culture shock is a shock or a feeling of shock by an


individual to what they face when they join or come to another culture
that has a different life or habit.
The Causes Of Culture Shock

Someone experiencing culture shock


must have its own cause. The causes of
the "Culture shock problem" from the
dominant to the lowest are as follows :

 Technological
 Geographic
 Linguistic
 Economic
 Costum and
 religious
The Symptoms Of Culture Shock
Symptoms of culture shock include :

1. Irritation 9. Vulnerable, fearful, or anxious.


2. Homesickness 10. Headaches, pains, and allergies.
3. Loneliness. 11. Feeling tired.
4. Nervousness. 12. Extreme pride in one's home
5. Loss of appetite. culture.
6. Sleeplessness. 13. Hypersensitivity or excitability.
7. Boredom 14. Confusion.

How To Cope With Culture Shock
Several ways can be used to treat culture shock,
including:
 Increase insight into information about the
environment to be addressed, by asking people
who have lived there, reading books, or browsing
via the internet.

 Find out how the culture, habits, and ways people


in the neighborhood speak. Don't let people you
interact with feel offended by differences in
speaking.

 When arriving at the place, immediately identify
important places such as shops, hospitals, and
post offices. Try to explore information by asking
residents.

 Be open-minded, because there may be habits


from the environment that is contrary to our
culture.
