Northern African nation saw a whopping 12.3 million
visitors in 2019, making it the most visited country on
the entire continent.
•In 2019 there were an impressive 11.3 million visitors to
Egypt, making this the second most visited country in
Africa. The main draw cards in Egypt are of course the
Egyptian pyramids, the pharaoh’s tombs and the Luxor
temple dating back thousands of years.
•This country comes in third on the list, but it is the front
runner for safari-goers. South Africa remains the most
popular choice for a safari, where you can spot the big
five and spend some time out in the wilderness. As for
the total visitors? There were 10.5 million visitors to
South Africa in 2019!
•Next up is Tunisia, with 8.3 million visitors making their
way to the Northern African country in 2019. Tunisia is
famous for its ancient cities, the Saharan desert and its
hot desert temperatures. It has also been dubbed by
some as the “next Morocco”, for being slightly less under
the radar and a more affordable option just a short flight
from many of Europe’s major cities.
Africa is home to many of the world's most famous
fauna in human culture such as
WILDLIFE in AFRICA: lions‚ rhinos‚ cheetahs‚ giraffes‚ antelope, hippos,
leopards, zebras‚ and African elephants among
many others.
Africa is the richest continent of freshwater fish,
with about 3000 species.[37][38] The East African
Great Lakes (Victoria, Malawi, and Tanganyika) are
the center of biodiversity of many fish, especially
cichlids (they harbor more than two-thirds of the
estimated 2000 species in the family).
More than 1100 mammal species live in Africa.
Africa has three endemic orders of mammals, the
Tubulidentata (aardvarks), Afrosoricida (tenrecs
and golden moles), and Macroscelidea (elephant
shrews).
The top wild animals in Africa are those that people
most often seek out in safaris, with many being
animals native to Africa. Among the best-known
African animals are the “Big Five” which are the
Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhinoceros, and Buffalo.
All of them can be seen in South Africa and are
Physical Features of Africa, the second-largest continent, is bounded by the

Africa: Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the
Atlantic Ocean. Africa has eight major physical regions: the
Sahara, the Sahel, the Ethiopian Highlands, the savanna, the
Swahili Coast, the rain forest, the African Great Lakes, and
Southern Africa.
The African Great Lakes (Swahili: Maziwa Makuu,
Kinyarwanda: Ibiyaga bigari) are a series of lakes constituting
the part of the Rift Valley lakes in and around the East African
Rift. They include Lake Victoria, the third-largest freshwater
lake in the world by area, Lake Tanganyika, the world's second-
largest freshwater lake by volume and depth, and Lake Malawi,
the world's eighth-largest freshwater lake by area.
Starting in the north are the famous Atlas mountains. This range
stretches 1,600km from Western Sahara through Morocco,
Algeria and Tunisia; and is the longest unbroken range in Africa.
Home to nomadic berbers, the range is famous for its highest
peak in North Africa, Mount Toubkal.
The Simien Mountains are part of the Ethiopian Highlands and
are also a World Heritage Site. The mountains are home to some
of the most incredible wildlife, including Ibex, wolves and of of
course the famous Ethiopian gelada baboons. Hiking and
camping opportunities abound in the Simien mountains, so if you
are looking for an off-the-beaten track experience, you can't go
wrong with these mountains.

feast of chicken cooked with lime, pepper, garlic, coconut milk and Piri Piri
sauce.
Shisa nyama, meaning "burn the meat" in Zulu, has come to refer to a festive
"bring-and-braai" gathering; Shisa nyama restaurants are often located next to
butchers' shops so patrons can select their own meats and have them cooked to
order over fiercely hot wood fires.
But one dish you shouldn't leave Nigeria without eating is jollof rice, a great
favorite all over West Africa, and one that is thought may be the origin of the
Cajun dish jambalaya.
Shawarma one of the tasty Egyptian dishes, it is a large cone of pressed lamb or
chicken that is rotated vertically in front of a flame grill. As the meat is cooked it
is sliced off and mixed on a griddle with chopped tomato, onion and parsley
