Ms. She M. Pajares
WHAT IS NETWORK TOPOLOGY?
• refers to the layout pattern of
interconnected elements, such as nodes of a
computer network. It defines how different
network devices are connected and how
data is transmitted between them.
WHAT IS NETWORK TOPOLOGY?
• "topology" refers to the arrangement or
structure of a system. In the context of
computer networks, topology specifically refers
to the layout or configuration of connected
devices (nodes) and the links (connections)
between them.
WHAT DOES “NODES OF A COMPUTER
NETWORK” MEAN?
• "node" refers to any device or point in the
network that can send, receive, or forward
data packets. It plays a crucial role in
network communication
• example: computers, routers, switches,
printers and scanners, and modems.
WHAT ARE THE 4 COMMON TYPES OF
NETWORK?
• MESH TOPOLOGY
• RING TOPOLOGY
• BUS TOPOLOGY
• STAR TOPOLOGY
MESH TOPOLOGY
MESH TOPOLOGY
• a type of network topology where each device (node) is
connected directly to every other device in the network. This
creates a fully interconnected network where data can take
multiple paths to reach its destination. Mesh topology offers
high redundancy and fault tolerance because if one link or
node fails, there are alternative paths available for data
transmission.
MESH TOPOLOGY
In a full mesh topology, every device is directly connected to every
other device. In this case, we'll have the following connections:
• A is connected to B, C, and D.
• B is connected to A, C, and D.
• C is connected to A, B, and D.
• D is connected to A, B, and C.
RING TOPOLOGY
RING TOPOLOGY
• a type of network topology where each device (node)
is connected to exactly two other devices, forming a
circular network. Data travels in one direction around
the ring until it reaches its destination.
BUS TOPOLOGY
BUS TOPOLOGY
• Bus Topology is a type of network topology where
all devices are connected to a single central cable,
known as the "bus." Data travels along the bus, and
each device receives the data. However, only the
device for which the data is intended processes it,
while the others ignore it.
STAR TOPOLOGY
STAR TOPOLOGY
• Star Topology is a type of network topology where
all devices are connected to a central hub or switch.
The central hub acts as a "star" with devices
connected to it like points on the spokes of a wheel.
ASSIGNMENT
Direction: Write it on a 1 whole sheet of paper. Your
answers should not be in less than 10 sentences.
• Reflect on the evolution of network topologies
over time. How have advancements in
technology influenced the adoption and use of
different topologies?
