“ Everyone who comes to me and hears

my words and does them, I will show

you what he is like . . .”

LUKE 6:47
“ . . . he is like a man building a house, who
dug deep and laid the foundation on the
rock. And when a flood arose, the stream
broke against that house and could not
shake it, because it had been well built.”

LUKE 6:48
“ But the one who hears and does not do
them is like a man who built a house on
the ground without a foundation. When
the stream broke against it, immediately it
fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

SIN AND SALVATION

For the wages of sin is death, but the
free gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord.

ROMANS 6:23
THE ORIGINAL STORY
In the beginning, God created us to have a personal
relationship
with Him, but man chose to rebel against God.
Then the eyes of both were opened, and
they knew that they were naked. And
they sewed fig leaves together and made
themselves loincloths.

GENESIS 3:7
And they heard the sound of the Lord
God walking in the garden in the cool of
the day, and the man and his wife hid
themselves from the presence of the
Lord God among the trees of the garden.

GENESIS 3:8
But the Lord God called to the man and
said to him, “ Where are you?”

GENESIS 3:9
THE RESULT OF SIN
The consequence of sin is death-
spiritual and physical.
For the wages of sin is death, but the
free gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord.

ROMANS 6:23
GOD’S SOLUTION FOR SIN:
JESUS’ DEATH AND RESURRECTION
reconciled
For our sake he made him to be sin who
knew no sin, so that in him we might
become the righteousness of God.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:21
RECEIVING GOD’S GIFT:
A NEW HEART
new
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a
new creation. The old has passed away;
behold, the new has come.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17
GRACE THROUGH FAITH
finished work
For by grace you have been saved through
faith. And this is not your own doing; it is
the gift of God, not a result of works, so that
no one may boast.

EPHESIANS 2:8,9

LORDSHIP
AND OBEDIENCE
“ Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and
not do what I tell you?”

LUKE 6:46
JESUS IS LORD
Jesus is Lordof all.
“ Let all the house of Israel therefore
know for certain that God has made him
both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom
you crucified.”

ACTS 2:36
THE NARROW DOOR
Lordship demands obedienceto God
and His Word.
“ Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and
not do what I tell you?”

LUKE 6:46
LORDSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP
Lordship governs our relationships.
Do not be unequally yoked with
unbelievers. For what partnership has
righteousness with lawlessness? Or what
fellowship has light with darkness?

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14
CAN YOU PASS THE TEST?
Lordship transforms our walk with God
and with others.
If we say we have fellowship with him
while we walk in darkness, we lie and
do not practice the truth.

1 JOHN 1:6
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus his Son
cleanses us from all sin.

1 JOHN 1:7
3
REPENTANCE
AND BAPTISM
And Peter said to them, “ Repent and be
baptized every one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins, and you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit.”

ACTS 2:38
WHAT SHALL WE DO?
Repentance is a change
of mind that results in a change of
direction.
And Peter said to them, “ Repent and be
baptized every one of you in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins, and you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit.”

ACTS 2:38
REPENTANCE:
TURING FROM SIN
Repentance is turning awayfrom everything the Bible
calls sin.
“‘. . . to open their eyes, so that they may
turn from darkness to light and from the
power of Satan to God, that they may
receive forgiveness of sins and a place
among those who are sanctified by faith in
me.’”

ACTS 26:18
REPENTANCE:
TURNING TO GOD
Repentance is turning to Godin faith.
. . . they should repent and turn to God,
performing deeds in keeping with their
repentance.

ACTS 26:20
WATER BAPTISM
Through water baptism, we identify
with Christ’s death,
burial, and resurrection.
Do you not know that all of us who have
been baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into his death?

ROMANS 6:3
We were buried therefore with him by
baptism into death, in order that, just as
Christ was raised from the dead by the
glory of the Father, we too might walk in
newness of life.

ROMANS 6:4

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
“ But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit has come upon you, and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

ACTS 1:8
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
The Holy Spirit is the Helper
and the Spirit of
Truth.
“ And I will ask the Father, and he will
give you another Helper to be with you
forever . . .”

JOHN 14:16
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
The fruit of the Holy Spirit is Christlikecharacter.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
against such things there is no law.

GALATIANS 5:22,23
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Spiritual gifts are given to everybeliever.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same
Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but
the same Lord . . .

1 CORINTHIANS 12:4,5
. . . and there are varieties of activities, but
it is the same God who empowers them all
in everyone. To each is given the
manifestation of the Spirit for the common
good.

1 CORINTHIANS 12:6,7
THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is given to those who askin faith.
“ If you then, who are evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how
much more will the heavenly Father give
the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

LUKE 11:13

shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that comes from the mouth of Go

the spiritual hunger and thirst of
every person.
I have not departed from the
commandment of his lips; I have treasured
the words of his mouth more than my
portion of food.

JOB 23:12
OBEDIENCE
God’s Word is to be obeyed.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers
only, deceiving yourselves. . . .

JAMES 1:22
But the one who looks into the perfect
law, the law of liberty, and perseveres,
being no hearer who forgets but a doer
who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

JAMES 1:25

nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit . . .”

MATTHEW 28:19
THE CALL:
MAKE DISCIPLES
Discipleship is a call to follow Jesus.
And he said to them, “ Follow me, and I
will make you fishers of men.”

MATTHEW 4:19
THE COST:
ABSOLUTE SURRENDER
Following Jesus is denying self.
And he said to all, “ If anyone would come
after me, let him deny himself and take up
his cross daily and follow me.”

LUKE 9:23
DISCIPLESHIP AND THE CROSS
Following Jesus is relying
on what Jesus did for me on
the cross.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no
longer I who live, but Christ who lives in
me. . . .

GALATIANS 2:20
. . . And the life I now live in the flesh I
live by faith in the Son of God, who loved
me and gave himself for me.

faith and of the knowledge of the Son of
God, to mature manhood, to the measure
of the stature of the fullness of Christ . . .

EPHESIANS 4:13
CHURCH DISCIPLINE
repentance restoration
Besides this, we have had earthly fathers
who disciplined us and we respected
them . . .

HEBREWS 12:9
For they disciplined us for a short time as
it seemed best to them, but he disciplines
us for our good, that we may share his
holiness.

HEBREWS 12:10
For the moment all discipline seems
painful rather than pleasant, but later it
yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness
to those who have been trained by it.

HOLY COMMUNION

For I received from the Lord what I also
delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on

broke it, and said, “ This is my body which
is for you. Do this in remembrance of m
e.”

1 CORINTHIANS 11:24
In the same way also he took the cup, after
supper, saying, “ This cup is the new
covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as
you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

1 CORINTHIANS 11:25
For as often as you eat this bread and
drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s
death until he comes.

PRAYER AND WORSHIP

Therefore, confess your sins to one
another and pray for one another, that you
