What is Assessment?
• “process of gathering data to better understand
the strengths and weaknesses of student
learning” (Harris and Hodges, 1995)
• a process of identifying, gathering, organizing
and interpreting quantitative and qualitative
information about what learners know and can
do.
What is Testing?
• “is an instrument of assessment”
What is Evaluation?
• “involves the task of interpreting, forming
conclusions and making judgments about the
information which gathered in the process of
assessment”

• Written Works (WW)

• Performance Task (PT)

Why Authentic Assessment?
• “The common practice of using recall and
recognition objective the skills and knowledge
they have mastered” – Richard Stiggins (1987)
• “are products and/or performance correlated
with real life experiences” – Newton Public
Schools
Characteristics of Authentic Assessment

• AA starts with clear and define criteria of


performance made know to the students
• AA is criterion – referenced rather than
norm – referenced and it identifies strength
and weakness, but does not compare students
nor rank their levels of performance

• AA often emphasizes performance
• AA encourage both teacher and students to
