POLLUTION
INTRODUCTION:A
01 IR POLLUTION
Air pollution refers to the presence of harmful
substances, including gases, particulate matter, and
biological agents, in the Earth's atmosphere,
resulting from anthropogenic activities such as
industrial processes, vehicular emissions, and
agricultural practices.

06 NEW WAYS OF
PRECIPITATION
NEW WAYS OF PRECIPITATION
1.Artificial Trees and Structures
● Artificial Trees: These structures mimic the function of trees in capturing CO2 from
the air. They use materials that absorb and capture pollutants. Once saturated, the
material can be processed to safely store or dispose of the pollutants.
● Smog-Eating Buildings: Some architectural materials are designed to absorb
pollutants from the air. For example, titanium dioxide-coated surfaces can react with
pollutants and convert them into less harmful substances.
NEW WAYS OF PRECIPITATION
2.ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATION
● Electrostatic precipitation involves the use of an electric field to remove particulate matter and other
pollutants from the air. Particles are charged and then attracted to electrodes, where they can be collected
and removed.
07 CASE STUDY
DELHI AFTER DIWALI 2020
● Delhi is infamous for the annual winter pollution. The levels of pollutants, including PM2 5, hit the roof starting
mid-October. The air quality index persistently falls under the hazardous' category. A blanket of haze and smog
surround the sky, thus leaving the citizens gasping for breath. Many reasons concoct this mesh of pollution in the
Delhi sky, one of them being the burning of fire-crackers during the festivities of Diwali
● This year, the government raised the alarm right on time and banned their bursting. However, many people flouted
the ban, and evidently, the quality of air plummeted. The real-time air quality index broke the scale in the areas
where people burst fire-crackers on the night of the festival. The national capital was no less than a living gas
chamber. People were horrified and anticipated polluted air for the coming few days.
● But the scene transformed the next day! An unexpected downpour on the mildly-cold afternoon improved the air
quality by a huge difference. The sky got clear, and the air became better
● We monitored the air quality and PM2.5 levels on Diwali and after. As seen in the picture, the real-time air quality
index of our location stood at 2362 during the peak hours of the festival. However, the value dipped to 370 after a
few hours of drizzle the next afternoon. The former falls into the hazardous category, while the latter value
belongs to the 'severe category. Albeit both these values are detrimental to humans and the environment, but the
difference in the values isstill a little relieving. Therefore, we confirmed the positive impact of rain on the air
quality.

OF AIR
POLLUTION
PREVENTION OF AIR
POLLUTION
1.Reduce Vehicle Emissions:
● Use public transportation, carpool, bike, or walk.
● Choose fuel-efficient vehicles or electric vehicles.
● Maintain and tune up vehicles regularly.
2.Promote Clean Energy:
● Support and advocate for renewable energy sources like wind and solar power.
● Use energy-efficient appliances and lighting in homes and businesses.
3.Reduce Industrial Emissions:
● Support and implement cleaner production technologies in industries.
● Encourage industries to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
4.Proper Waste Management:
● Recycle and properly dispose of waste.
● Avoid burning waste, as it releases harmful pollutants into the air.
5.Use Clean Cooking Methods:
● Use clean and efficient cooking stoves.
● Avoid burning wood or other solid fuels indoors.
