What is Mountaineering?

 also referred to as “Mountain Climbing” or (mainly in Europe) “Alpinism”


is the sport of climbing a mountain.
 the sport of attain, high points in mountainous regions, mainly for the
pleasure of climb.
 the act of trekking and climbing mountains, often with specialised
equipment.
Traveling
 It is an act of traversing through a geographic region or moving from one
place to another.
Hiking

 Is an outdoor activity which consists of a long walking in natural environments,


often on hiking trails or paths.
 Is to move from one place to another using your feet as the only ‘means of
transport’ Any physical activity in the open air requires movements are made on
foot.
Trekking

 Is an increasingly popular activity, usually just to enjoy the landscape, the


ground, the climate and also the trees, plants and animals.
Camping

 A tourist activity that consist of sleeping in a portable shelter such as a tent


or trailer and traveling with equipment designed for outdoor living.
Traveler
 A person who is making a journey or a person who travels a lot.

Mountaineer
 A person who climbs mountains as a sport or job.

Hiker
 A person who walks for long distances, especially across country.

Trekker
 A traveller who makes a long arduous journey.

Camper
 One that camps, such as a person lodging temporarily in a tent or cabin.
Some Terminologies Used in
Mountaineering
 Jump off – A place where we begin or engage an activity
 Cairn - A pile of rock or wood used to mark a given path.
 Free Climb -
A climb using one's hands and feet only; without artificial helps.
 Trail water/food- easily accessible bottle of water or snacks for
refreshment along the trail.
 Trail Signs - Rocks, strings, foliage, branches, or hack signs on tree trunks
that mark the designated route.
 Take 5 - Take 5 minutes rest.
 E-camp - Emergency camp.
 Break Camp -
Disassembling tents, clean campsite and getting ready to leave camp.
