Popular literature is generally
fictional in nature. Its major purpose
is entertainment. It may belong to
one of the several genres available;
romance, historical, fantasy, crime,
science fiction, etc.
Generally it is written, and in the case
of visual media is produced to a set
format, with characters and settings
readily imagined by the common
reader.
So theme, plot and characters
that are able to be imagined are
necessary considerations,
relevant to the viewer/reader.
Popular Literature as a source of
'Entertainment’

It attracts the plenty of readers who are always in

the search of pleasure. They get pleasure with the
help of entertainment. With this, the readers try
to escape the sorrows of life and enjoy the world
of imagination to seek entertainment.
Most popular literature is fiction written for
purposes of entertainment, but readers can
learn and expand their horizons by reading
fiction.

Ex. You learned about the Civil War by reading

historical fiction, and about England in the
Middle Ages by reading books about King
Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
And there are other forms of popular literature,
such as books on history, science, geography,
etc.
