ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES

AS APPLIED FOR TEACHING

LITERATURE

WEEK 12
Is the systematic basis for making
inferences about the learning and
development of students.

ASSESSMENT it is the process of defining, selecting,

designing, collecting, analyzing,
interpreting, and using information to
increase students’ learning and
development.
Types of Assessment
1. Traditional
2. Performance-based
3. Project based
4. Portfolio
1. Traditional Assessment
Traditonal assessment methods are the tests, quizzes,
and written assignments that most of us are pretty
familiar with. they are designed to measure a student’s
knowledge, skills, and abilities in a sturctured
environment.

 The most widely used traditional assessment tools are

multiple-choice tests, true\false test, short answer, and
essay
Types of Traditional Assessment
 MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST
- is a form of assessment which the students are
asked to select the best possible answer out of
the choices from a list.

- If guessing an answer, there’s usually a 25%

percent chance of getting it correct on a 4
answer choice question.
Types of Traditional Assessment
 TRUE OR FALSE TEST
- are typically used to measure the ability to
identify whether or not the statements of facts
are correct. The basic format is simply a
declarative statement that the student must
judge a true or false.
Types of Traditional Assessment
 SHORT ANSWER TEST
- Short answer items requires the examinee to
respond to the item with a word, short phrase,
number or a symbol.

- They are commonly used in examination to

assess the basic knowledge and understanding
of a topic before more in depth assessment
question.
Types of Traditional Assessment
 ESSAY
- is a short piece of writing which is set around a
specific topic or subject. The piece of writing will
give information sorrounding topic but will also
display the opinions and thoughts of the author.
2. Performance-based Assessment
- Performance-based assessments is a method
of evaluating a student’s profeciency based on
thier ability to perform certain tasks or
demonstrate specific skills. Rather than relying
solely on traditional assessment.

ex. Presentation, role playing, portfolios, oral

reading and etc.
3. Project-based Assessment
- Project-based assessment is a form of
performance based assessment where students
demonstrate their understanding of a topic or
concept by completing a project.

- Students are typically given a real-world

problem or task and are asked to investigate,
analyze, and create a solution or product.
4. Portfolio
- Portfolio assessment is a method of evaluating
a student’s learning progress and achievements
by compiling and analyzing samples of their
work over time. Additionally, portfolio allows for
more personalized and holistic evaluation, as it
provides evidence of student’s skills, creativity,
critical thinking, and self reflection.
GROUP TASK
- refers to an assignment that requires
collaboration and cooperation among a group of
individual to achieve a common goal or
objective.

- the purpose of group tasks is to promote

teamwork, communication, problem solving skill,
leadership skill among the participants.
On your own perspective, in what
type of assessment is group task is
appropriate to apply? Why?
TABLE OF SPECIFICATION (TOS)
- is a document or chart that outlines the content
and cognitive levels of the items included in an
assessment or test. It serve as blueprint for
designing assessments by specifying the topics
or content areas to be covered and cognitive
levels at which students will be assessed.
Table of Specification (TOS)
TOS provides several benefits for educators and
instructional designers:

1. Alignment of question
2. Balance
3. Cognitive level
4. Validity
5. Reliablity
