Basics of wireless networks

chapter 2
Wireless Technology

1. Satellite Communication
Satellite communication is spread all over the world widely to allow users to stay connected almost anywhere on the
universe. When the signal is sent near the satellite then, the satellite amplifies the signal and sends it back to the antenna
receiver which is located on the surface of the earth.
2. Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is a wireless communication used by various electronic devices like smartphones, laptops, Ipads etc. These networks
require to be protected with passwords for the purpose of its security, otherwise it will be accessed by other people.

3. Bluetooth Technology
The Bluetooth technology is used for exchanging data between mobile and other devices
Network Infrastructure

Network infrastructure is the broader collection of fundamental components that work

cohesively to run an IT network

What does a network infrastructure consist of?

Hardware infrastructure : typically includes routers, switches, hubs, repeaters, gateways,
bridges, and modems.
Software infrastructure : includes monitoring and management tools and operating systems.
Network services : include networking protocols such as TCP, UDP, and IP addressing.
types of wireless networks

Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN) are short-range networks that connect devices
within a relatively small area. A WPAN generally connects devices within a person's reach
Using Bluetooth technology.
Advantages of WPAN :
Security
Portability
Easy Connectivity
Stability

Disadvantages of WPAN :
Short range
Transfer speed
types of wireless networks

Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) are wireless networks that use radio waves WLANs are
used for connecting to local resources and to the internet. The range can be confined to a single
room or home or spread across an entire building or campus

Advantages of wireless local area network (WLAN) :

It’s a reliable sort of communication.
Easy installation and you would like don’t need extra cables for installation.

Disadvantages of wireless local area network (WLAN) :

Chances of errors are high.

Low data transfer rate
Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN) can be maintained over large areas, such as cities
or countries, via multiple satellite systems, antenna sites or mobile phone signals. With a
wide coverage area

Advantages of WWAN :

Global wireless coverage

Better security than WLAN
Quick deployment for new applications.

Disadvantages of WWAN :
Decreased throughput during large coverage area.
What Are Wi-Fi Standards?

Created by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Wi-Fi standards are the most
commonly used networking standards that govern transmission methods to connect wireless networks
in the world. There are a number of different Wi-Fi standards that are being updated every couple of
years. Updated Wi-Fi standards ensure quality of service through faster and more efficient Internet
connection.
Wi-Fi The networking standard used by wireless architecture is IEEE 802.11.the
most commonly known are:
