ELECTRIC CIRCUIT,

TYPES OF CIRCUIT
CONNECTIONS AND
CONDITIONS OF A
CIRCUIT
Observe the
electricity in this
picture.

Imagine what
it looks like in
a closer look.
 This is what
electricity looks
like if magnified
while they are
travelling in a
conductor.
ELECTRICITY
 is the movement or flow of electrons
from 1 atom to another atom in a
conductor.
CONDUCTORS
 are materials that easily permits the
flow of electricity
INSULATORS
 are materials which do NOT easily
permits the flow of electricity.
ELECTRIC CIRCUIT
 is the complete flow of current
through a path (conductor) from the
source to the load and back to the
source.
PARTS OF AN ELECTRIC
CIRCUIT
 SOURCE – example : battery
 LOAD – example : bulb
 CONTROL – example : switch
 PATH – example : wire
TYPES OF CIRCUIT
CONNECTIONS
 Simple Circuit
 Series Circuit or Series Connection
 Parallel Circuit or Parallel
Connection
 Complex Circuit
SIMPLE CIRCUIT
 Has ONLY 1 load, 1 switch and 1
source .
 is neither a series circuit nor a
parallel circuit.
SERIES CIRCUIT
 has 2 or more loads that are
dependent to each other.
 When 1 load is removed, the other
will not function.
 Loads are connected end to end
along the path.
PARALLEL CIRCUIT
 has 2 or more loads that are
independent from to each other.
 When 1 load is removed, the other
loads will still function.
 Loads are connected
side by side
along the path.
COMPLEX CIRCUIT
 has 2 or more loads.
 Is the combination of series and
parallel circuit.
CONDITIONS OF A
CIRCUIT
 Open Circuit
 Closed Circuit
 Short Circuit
 Grounded Circuit
 Overloaded Circuit
OPEN CIRCUIT
 There is an incomplete flow of
electricity in a circuit.
 Example:
 Disconnected wires
 Switched-off circuit
CLOSE CIRCUIT
 There is a complete flow of
electricity in a circuit.
 Example:
 Switched-on circuit
SHORT CIRCUIT
 There is a direct contact between L1
and L2 (or + terminal and – terminal).
GROUNDED CIRCUIT
 happens when 1 un-insulated live
conductor touches the metal part of
the appliance.
OVERLOADED CIRCUIT
 When there is too much current
flowing in a wire (conductor)
 This happens when the flowing
current in
the wire is more
than the capacity
of the wire.

“The Boat is sinking”
(group yourselves into ...)
TASKS
 2. Get 1 whole sheet of
paper and a pen.

Draw a schematic digram of a

circuit with 3 bulbs.
Bulb 1 and Bulb 2 must be in
series connection, but also,
they (Bulb 1 and Bulb 2) should
be parallel to Bulb 3.
