SMART CITY : INDORE

• Indore has carried one of the widest citizen’s engagement program for
shaping of vision, goals & strategies, selection & planning of ABD &
Pan-city proposal.
• Indore having historical background starting from the 1800’s is a
challenge accepted by the city to make its identity stronger and
enhance its associational values.
• Indore has been successful in the competition for implementation of
smart solutions in the first phase on the basis of its Smart city
proposal (SCP). This SCP consisted of an AREA- BASED
DEVELOPMENT (ABD) as well PAN-City solution.
• The Proposal was scored based on the quality of city-level criteria like
vision and goals, strategic plan etc. and the quality of proposals for
ABD as well as PAN-city solution.
 Objectives
• This mission is to rest on shoulders of highly economical
growth cities.
• The Clean and sustainable environment.
• Apply smart solutions.
• Set examples to be replicated both within and outside the
smart city and catalyze the creation of similar smart cities.
 Transportation
• Indore is experiencing many folds increase in Traffic flow, the same has resulted
into increase in accidents.
• Indore smart city had decided to install advanced signage with Variable
messaging system, which will provide real time useful information to road users
in an automated fashion.
• It is a PAN city project which will provide various useful information like -
Estimated Journey Time Weather Forecast, Auto Traffic re-routing, Parking
information, Emergency Messages, Air Quality Index, Road Closures & Diversions.
• Additionally, this can be used as City Branding, Tourism information, Important
information to citizens from the government Indore city is intended to provide
the needed information distinctively with adequate clarity and prominence so
that citizens and tourists will never feel inconvenience in searchin
• AICTSL ( Atal Indore City Transport Service Limited)
It operates public transport fleet of buses. Covers various main
routes which are considered in project.
• BRTS ( Bus Rapid Transit System)
It has dedicated bus lanes and modern stations. Aim to improve
transportation efficiency.
• Metro rail plans(33.4km) are placed but construction still
underway it decreases load on public transport.

 Water Management
• Indore, the cleanest city in India and also the financial capital & most
populous city of MP, sits on water demand of 290 MLD. With a
projected population of 30 lakh by 2022, the water demand is
projected to be around 422 MLD.
• Indore water supply network serve a population of (census 2011) 19.6
lakh. The water services cover 46.65 % of the population.
• Indore is India's first Water Plus City under Swachh Survekshan 2021.
It is the cleanest city of India. Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey
of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns. It was
launched as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Solid waste management –
• the launch of the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) campaign in 2014 led the Indore Municipal
Corporation (IMC) to undertake a comprehensive transformation of its waste management
system.
• In 10 years, Indore will create 2,000 metric tons of waste every day, up from the current 1,200
metric tons, as per estimations.
• indore today generates over 1,115 MT of garbage a day and all of it is collected from the source.
• Challenges faced –

• Limited infrastructure for waste processing and disposal:
