GUIDE OF THE PROJECT WORK

MS. CH . RENUKA
ABSTRACT
 Agriculture is the most important sector of the Indian economy. It is the most
important source of employment for the majority of the work force in the country.
 A major population in India is engaged in agriculture. Among that highest
percentage was in paddy sector.
 Rice is the major stable food of the country. Releasing of work force to sectors
other than Agriculture is important to develop the country.
 To release the work force in paddy sector mechanization plays a big role. To
feed growing population is a huge challenge.
 Mechanization of paddy sector will lead to higher productivity with releasing
of work force to other sectors.
 The objective of this project is to design a paddy transplanting mechanism to
transplant paddy seedlings by small scale farmers in the country.
INTRODUCTION

 Transplanting is one of the major process for establishment of paddy in India. In this
method seed is sown in one place and seedlings after they have grown a little are
transplanted to another.
 This is done in order to get higher yields and less weeding. Transplanting of rice is
highly labour intensive and it may require 250-350 man-hours per hectares.
 Seedling are prepared in nurseries where they grow for 15-20 days. After these
seedling are been prepared, these are been transplanted manually by labour.
 The orientation of the labour at the time of transplanting is hazardous for their
health. With manual transplantation the cost of production of rice also increases.
 With the help of a Rice Transplanting Machine, the transplantation cost as well as
time will decreases with increase in efficiency.
COMPONENTS OF RICE TRANSPLANTER
BALL BEARINGS
 Ball Bearings are used to provide smooth, low Friction Motion in Rotary
applications.
DIMENSIONS :
 Inner Diameter = 20 mm.
PADDY SUPPORT PLATE
 Supporting Plate used to keep the Paddy Seedlings on the Transplanter.
DIMENSIONS :
Length of the Sheet Metal = 500 mm.
Breadth of the Sheet Metal = 300 mm.
Thickness of the Sheet Metal = 0.20 mm.
BASE WHEEL
 The Base wheels are used to move the transplanter easily in agricultural land.
DIMENSIONS :
 Inner Diameter of wheel = 20 mm.
 Outer Diameter of wheel = 250 mm.
 No. of vanes in wheel = 20.
CHAIN DRIVE
 Roller chain sprockets are toothed gears used with roller chain to Transmit
Mechanical Power.
DIMENSIONS :
 Length of chain Drive = 300 mm.
 No. of teeths on Large Sprocket = 40.
 No. of teeths on small Sprocket = 18.
GEAR PAIR
 The arrangement of Gear Pair is to Transmit the power from one shaft to the
another shaft.
DIMENSIONS :
 Inner Diameter = 18 mm.
 Pitch Length = 5 mm.
BASE PLATE
 The total body and attachments of the machine will mounted in the Base Plate.
DIMENSIONS :
 Length of the Base Plate = 600 mm.
 Breadth of the Base Plate = 300 mm.
 Thickness of the Base Plate = 0.20 mm.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
In the present experimental set up when the machine is pushed from paddy
support plate in the field for operating it, the base wheels rotate in
anticlockwise direction. This produces power which is transmitted towards
mechanical arms with the help of chain drive. Here, gear pair plays a vital role
as it changes the rotational direction from anti-clockwise to clockwise
direction. The mechanical arms start oscillating on its axis. While oscillating it
grabs the paddy seedlings from paddy support plate and plants it in the field.
So, finally rice planting of rice seedlings can be performed.
ADVANTAGES
 By using machine transplanting we can cover more area with less labour, reduces
the burden of the farmer.
 By using machine we can achieve uniform spacing and plant density.
 Placing of single seedling is possible.

 Uniform depth of transplanting of seedlings is possible.

 Seedlings which transplanted by machine can recover fast, vigorously.
 Higher productivity compared to traditional methods.
 Generates employment and alternate sources of income for rural youth through
custom services on nursery raising and mechanical transplanting.
CONCLUSION
 The rice planting machine has been designed and fabricated satisfactorily.
 Finally we can say that it is an user friendly and efficient machine with low
production cost. But, there is always a room for improvement. Finally we can say

is always a room for improvement.
 So, the improvements can be done before introducing it to the farmers. So, the
improvements can be done before introducing it to the farmers.
 The machine is driven by man power but engine can be coupled to enhance
the performance. Machine can be developed to transplant several rows
simultaneously.
 The dapog must have thin mud layer for easy removal of seedlings.
