BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

 The background of the study is an explanation of


the context of study which involves the current data
or status of the problem, existing studies about it and
its history that paved way to the development of the
research problem. It explicates the rationale why you,
as a researcher, are conducting the study. Writing
this particular part of the paper may lead you to your
research questions.
In writing introduction, the writer is simply like telling a story (narrative

form), and reassuring that it hooks the readers’ attention. The writer

should provide the following: (1) research gap of the study or the emergent

problems to be investigated (example: existing study that needs to be

improved); (2) aims, objectives and importance of the study; (3) general

background of the study; and lastly, (4) similar problems exist in local,

national and international level; (5) UN, DEPED, CHED.

general. Start from a holistic or world
perspective.

 Introduce the issue that you will be investigating ,
 The effect and development of the issue ,
 Present who are affected by the issue ,
 Issuesmust be presented from international to
national to local.
 Present some articles or legal basis proving that
this issue exists and does affect the
respondents. Cited literature must be within a
decade range (2012 -present). Do not place or
use too much references or citations .

 5.The last paragraph of the introduction should


be the RATIONALE of the study. This should
present the reason for choosing the topic and
conducting the study.
 6.Two to three pages should be enough for this
part of the study.
