Introduction
Rationale

In writing introduction, the writer is simply like telling a story (narrative form),

and reassuring that it hooks the readers’ attention. The writer should provide the

following: (1) research gap of the study or the emergent problems to be investigated

(example: existing study that needs to be improved); (2) aims, objectives and

importance of the study; (3) general background of the study; and lastly, (4) similar

problems exist in local, national and international level; (5) UN, DEPED, CHED.

Cited literature must be within a decade range (2012 -present). The

arrangement of the content does not necessarily be arranged accordingly, as long as

the main points are presented.

• The introduction identifies the topic and indicates
the purpose of the research paper.
• Explanations (or bridge sentences) are built in
provide to focus and lead to the narrowed topic.
• The introduction uses a “hook” to grab the
reader’s attention, and it logically connects to the
topic.
• The thesis statement provides controlling idea,
and several aspects to elaborate at the end of the
introduction.

background information on the topic and presents
clearly how the information is connected to the thesis
statement.
• The introduction provides enough citations in the study
background.
• The statement follows correct grammar, punctuations
and uses proper diction.
