Aim and Objectives
Aim: To improve the interpretability or perception of
information in images for human viewers, or to provide `better' input for other automated image processing techniques.
Objective: Process an image so that the result is more
suitable than the original image for a specific application.

Contextual and Variational Contrast Enhancement (2011) IEEE Paper
Contrast enhancement is used to either increase the contrast of an image with low dynamic range or to bring out image details. The enhanced image looks subjectively better than the original image as the greylevel differences (i.e., the contrast) among objects and background are increased All the above approaches use a 1-dimensional (1D) histogram. The biggest disadvantage of this method is it does not preserve brightness of an image. The brightness get changed after histogram equalization. Hence preserving the original brightness and enhancing contrast are essential to avoid other side effects

The aim of image enhancement is to extract hidden image
details and enhance the contrast in images with a low dynamic range. The large number of images captured by the widespread use of digital imaging devices has significantly increased the demand for image enhancement We recognize that the main reason for this limitation is that non-uniform illumination significantly reduces the magnitude of the spatial information. To address this issue, we propose defining spatial information on the basis of image reflectance estimated with edge-preserving smoothingsuch that the HE can be guided by the reflectance for high adaptabil-ity.

Methodology of the Proposed Project • Reflectance Orientated Probabilistic Equalization(ROPE) provides the most pleasant brightness. It demonstrates much greater adaptability and consistency and our approach is capable of improving brightness sufficiently for dark images while avoiding excessive enhancement for normal-light images. • Image segmentation :It is a method of dividing a digital image into subgroups called image segments, reducing the complexity of the image and enabling further processing or analysis of each image segment. • A common use of image segmentation is in object detection. Instead of processing the entire image , we will only enhance the particular part that is segmented
