earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. The epicenter was 37 km west–northwest of Gaziantep. The earthquake had a maximum Mercalli intensity of XII (12) around the epicenter and in Antakya. It was followed by a Mw 7.7 earthquake at 13:24.

Morocco just after 11 p.m. local time. The earthquake's depth was 11.5 miles, and the epicenter was 44 miles southwest of Marrakesh (French: Marrakech) near the town of Adassil, in the High Atlas Mountains, Al Haouz province.
