introduction

Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any

chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of
the atmosphere
causes of air pollution

 agricultural activities

 burning of fossil fuels

 power plants
 wood fuel
agricultural activities
 the application of fertilisers and insecticides, the rearing of livestock, the
use of heavy duty machinery and the burning of crop stubble
burning of fossil fuels
 When fossil fuels are burned, they release nitrogen oxides into
the atmosphere, which contribute to the formation of smog and
acid rain.
power plants
effect of air pollution

 respiratory and heart problems

 global warming

 acid rain

 ozone layer depletion

 effect on wildlife
 smog
respiratory and heart problems
 If the heart is ill or damaged, it cannot pump out
enough of the blood it gets from the lungs.
acid rain
Depletion of ozone layer
 When chlorine and bromine atoms come into contact with
ozone in the stratosphere, they destroy ozone molecules.
control measures of air pollution

 use of public mode transport

 conserve energy

 reduse reuse recycle

 car pooling

 use electric vehicles

 do not burn household waste

 use unleaded petrol

 save water

 clean energy resources

use of public mode transport
use electric vehicles
 electric cars do reduce levels of air pollution
compared to petrol, and especially diesel cars.
do not burn household waste
 When household waste, like wood and leaves, are burned,
they produce smoke, which contains vapors and particulate
matter (solid and liquid droplets suspended in the air).
car pooling

 Carpooling is a simple and effective way to reduce

your carbon footprint when it comes to commuting
use unleaded petrol

 the use of unleaded petrol and compressed natural gas in

automobiles reduce air pollution.
