• A distinctive architectural style
influenced by Buddhism and Korean
Confucianism
• The main characteristic of
traditional Korean architecture, is
its sloping roofs. Which has been
greatly inspired by Chinese
architecture.

• Gyeongbokgung Palace was
the first and largest of the
royal palaces built during
the Joseon Dynasty.

• Built in 1395,
Gyeongbokgung Palace was
located at the heart of the
newly appointed capital of
Seoul (then known as
Hanyang) and represented
the sovereignty of the
Joseon Dynasty.

Deoksugung, often referred
to as Gyeongun-gung,
Deoksugung Palace, or
Deoksu Palace, is a walled
complex of palaces located
in Seoul.

During the Joseon


monarchy, members of the
Korean royal family resided
there until 1910 when Japan
annexed Korea.

constructed by the Joseon dynasty's
monarchs, it is recognized as a Historic
Site.

The structures have different


architectural styles, some of which are
made of painted wood, stucco, and
natural cryptomeria wood. Certain
structures were constructed using
stone to resemble opulent western
buildings.

Korea, Changdeokgung (The
Palace of Prospering Virtue),
sometimes referred to as
Changdeokgung Palace or
Changdeok
• Changdeokgung, along with
Changgyeonggung, is sometimes
called the "East Palace" because
it is situated east of Gyeongbok
Palace. It is one of the "Five
Grand Palaces" constructed by
the Joseon dynasty's rulers
(1392–1897).

A typical Korean temple consists of the following elements:
Iljumun ( 일주문 ) – One pillar gate found at the entrance to temple grounds
Sacheonwangmun ( 사천왕문 ), also Cheonwangmun - Gate of the Four Heavenly Kings, to mark the
entrance of the temple's boundaries
Beopdang ( 법당 ) – Dharma hall, used for lectures and sermons
Monastic quarters
Jonggo ( 종고 ) – bell tower
Daeungjeon ( 대웅전 ) – main shrine hall housing the temple's main Buddha images
Pagoda
Myeongbujeon ( 명부전 ) – judgment hall, housing an image of the bodhisattva Kshitigarbha ( 지장 )
and depictions of the Buddhist hell
Nahanjeon ( 나한전 ) – Hall of the Arhats
Sansingak ( 산신각 ) – a shamanic shrine dedicated to the mountain god Sansin ( 산신 ), who can be
depicted as both a male or a female.[3] Sometimes called chilseong-gak ( 칠성각 ) or samseong-gak
( 삼성각 ), this shrine is usually found behind the main shrine hall.
