INTRODUCTION
 BSES stands for "Bombay Suburban Electric Supply" which is
the part of Reliance Infrastructure Limited .

 Divided into Two parts:-

(i) BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL)
(ii) BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL)

 BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) is a joint venture between

the Government of Delhi and Reliance Infrastructure Limited,
which holds a 51% majority stake in the venture.

 BYPL is engaged in power distribution in areas of Eastern and

Central Delhi while BRPL distributes electricity in South Delhi
and West Delhi areas
SUBSTATION
Receives power at 220kV
Transmission of Electricity
Distribution of Electricity
High Voltage is stepdown
to Low voltage using PTR

Ex.-
 220kV/66kV substation
 66kV/33kV substation
 66kV/11kV substation
 33kV/11kV substation
66KV Kamla market substation
 It is divided into two parts:-
A. Panel Section
 Control Panel Section
 Relay and Protection Panel Section

B. Switch Yard
 66kV Section
 33kV section
A. Panel Section
 It is a room which contains all types of panels.
 It has two sections:-
 Control Panel Section
It contain panels related to controlling of instruments.
E.g.:- feeder panel, transformer panel, Scada control
panel etc.

 Relay And Protection Panel Section

It contains panels related to relay systems and
protection systems. E.g.:- Switchgear (SWG), line
protection panel, etc.
B. Switch Yard
 It is the field where components are used in controlling

and measuring supply.

 Some of these components are:-
 Switchgear (SWG)
 Power Transformers etc.
power distribution from
substation to consumers
POWER TRANSFORMER

 A electrical Device.
Transfer electrical energy
between two or more circuits
through electromagnetic
induction
No Change in Frequency.
SWITCHGEAR (swg)
Switchgear is a combination
of electrical devices, such as
switches, circuit breakers,
fuses, CT, PT and relays etc.

Improving overall system

efficiency & quickly operated
through SCADA.

 It’s main function is to

control, protect, and isolate
electrical equipment.
workshop
Follow 5S System
Repairing, maintenance and testing
of devices
The main devices are :-
• Ring Main Unit (RMU)
• Air circuit Breaker(ACB)
Allocation of repaired RMU & ACB to
subdivisons
Ring main unit (Rmu)
Electrical device that used in the distribution network
 Provide isolation and protection against electrical faults.
 Enhances system reliability
Main functions :-
• Load Switching
• Fault Protection
• Remote Monitoring
Components of RMU
The main components of RMU are :-
 Circuit breaker
 Relay
 Isolators
 SF6 indicator
Testing of RMU
Testing in RMUs ensures reliability and safety

It verifies that circuit breakers and switches are working

correctly & protecting against electrical faults

Some common tests performed on an RMU:-

 Mechanical Operation Test
 Insulation Resistance Test
 Earth fault Testing
 Overload Testing
 Continuity Test
air circuit breaker (acb)
Electrical device that used in the distribution network
used for LT (Low Tension) electrical system i.e 415V
Main functions :-
• Load Switching
• Fault Protection
• Manual & Remote Monitoring
Components of ACB
The main components of ACB are :-
 Contacts
 Relay
 Arc quenching arrangement
Tripping coil
TYPES OF CIRCUIT BREAKERS
AIR-BLAST CIRCUIT BREAKER
It uses a high-pressure air as the OIL CIRCUIT BREAKER
arc quenching medium. When the A high-voltage circuit
contacts are separated, high- breaker in which the arc is
pressure air is forced on the arc drawn in oil to dissipate
through a nozzle. It cools the arc the heat and extinguish

air. The chamber is filled with oil .

PROTECTIVE RELAYS

It is a sensing device and is

designed to detect operating
conditions on an electric circuit.
It trips the circuit breaker when
fault is detected.

TYPES OF RELAY
 Overcurrent relay
 Differential relay
 Tripping relay
 Directional Relay
 Auxiliary Relay
