Introduction
Palaming is an agricultural Barangay in the City of San Carlos, Pangasinan.
Located 10 kilometers from the city center, Residents of Barangay Palaming have long
been maintaining an intimate affair with the bamboo. For generations, they have been
crafting practical bamboo products and they do this not only to augment their income, but
as a way of life, But as small businesses and daily wage earners, they are among the worst
hitted in the first wave of COVID-19. Many families in Barangay Palaming, who found a way
out of unemployment as creators of exclusive bamboo products, have been hit hard by the
restrictions imposed due to the ongoing pandemic. Families have been making living by
selling bamboo products. However, with the lockdown in place, these families were unable
to sell their items and had to face a hard time to make ends meet. The locals have learned
the skill of making bamboo products like hut, baskets, chairs and furnitures from their
elders.
Review of related Literature
A. Foreign Studies
For several decades, bamboos are one of the most valuable and efficient raw materials ever used by the Filipino citizens for their housings, utensils, and
furniture, this proves that bamboo became one of the assets of our locality that was used to identify our constructive skills, race, and wood crafting abilities.
Bamboo has become one of the local identifiers to tell whether you are a local citizen or not, this proves that the raw materials in our locality hold an
enormous value or reputation towards the citizens across the nation. Preservation and promotion of our local materials such as bamboo provides us a strengthened
identity, as such, it also provides us a reference that bamboo can be one of the best substitutes for construction materials that is worth the world’s penny.
A certain place’s trademark products are a part of their culture and they’re thus considered as the main bread and butter of many local citizens. Cultural
identity is established on the core values shared on a living society, Tierney, B. (2010). These values include language, dressing style, way of talking, and the trademark
products of certain localities but unfortunately in the 21st Century, a century of globalization where all the societies with different culture live together, western civilization
is sweeping away the traditions and culture of the society, affecting changes in the behavior and thinking of people of different society affecting their economy.

B. Local Studies
The locality of Barangay Palaming utilizes this bamboo asset in their industry to hold vast revenues through manufacturing of rattan materials such as
baskets, and bamboo materials for housings and furniture. In the locality of Barangay Palaming, its bamboo industry is not easily recognized even though it is identified
as one of the bamboo capitals of the locale. Bahay Kubo is one of the bamboo housing materials produced and manufactured in the bamboo industry of Barangay
Palaming, due to the lack of advertising through media, these bamboo products cannot maintain their quality of reputation towards the citizens which affects their
business during the midst of pandemic and on the long run.
A disadvantage of bamboo industry in Barangay Palaming during this pandemic is the lack of public exposure, since a lot of the people rooted themselves
in their online media platforms, it is advisable that businesses must be promoted through online media platforms to maximize their reputation and exposure for maximum
revenue
Local Barangays have their own trademarks and identification based on what they are manufacturing or producing with the aid of the skilled workers in their
place. As for this case, bamboo production and manufacturing are utilized by local Barangay skilled woodcrafters which delivers the absolute quality of products towards
the public, this scenario has its drawbacks, one is promotion, when there is no sufficient advertisement asset of the said business, the probability of going bankrupt is
high despite its remarkable quality of products. The insufficient promotion of bamboo industry from a locality degenerates its business offers or exchange from its people
and sometimes other business premises.
The Problem

In Barangay Palaming, San Carlos City, Pangasinan in particular, the residents

aspire generate an income through the process of promoting bamboo products. It is
also through this manner that they can preserve the identity of such a national
product. However, due to the existing health protocols and limitations which exist in
time of the pandemic, the citizens find it difficult to fully-promote their products in a
person-to-person method wherein it hinders them from physically communicating
and advertising the features, characteristics, and purposes of their prominent
bamboo products.
Conceptual Framework
The INPUT of this research will be economic status and source of income of people using social media, specially in promotion and advertisement of
bamboo products.
