POPULATION

Population, in human biology, the whole


number of inhabitants occupying an area
(such as a country or the world) and
continually being modified by increases
(births and immigrations) and losses (deaths
and emigrations).
According to UN data, the current
population in Philippines is 113, 779, 827 as
of Monday, May 22, 2023, Based on
Worldometer elaboration of the latest United
Nations Data. The Philippines 2020
population is estimated at 109, 581, 078
people at mid year.
Population Census - it is the head count of all the people lives in a particular area.

Importance of Population Census


1. To determine the size and rate of the growth of our population.
2. To reveal the level of manpower.
3. To appreciate the formulation of economic policies.
4. To make provision of social amenities.
5. To assess the standard of living.
6. To reveal the rate of migration.
7. To determine the level of unemployment.
THEORIES OF
POPULATION
1. Malthusian Population Theory - the human
population grows more rapidly than the food
supply, war or disease reduces the population.
2. Demographic Transition Theory - the
populations grow along a predictive.

1. Pre-industrialization ( high birth rate
and high death rate)
2. Transitional (high birth rate and low
death rate)
3. Post-transitional (low birth rate and
low death rate)
Malthus stated that:
- the death rate may become so high that
people may not be able to produce.
- people will eventually decide not to have
children.
- migration of people from one place to
another.
Malthus theory was concerned about the:
- population rates between rich and poor.
- population density and national income.

resources.

MORTALITY RATE
Is a measure of the frequency of
occurrence of death in a defined
population during a specified
interval.
BIRTH RATE
Is the ratio between the number of
live-births in year and the average
total population of that year (Insee,
2020).
IMMIGRATION
The process of moving to a new
country or region with the intention
of staying ang living there.
Is Philippines a fast growing population?
From 1960 to 2021 the population of the Philippines
increased from 26.27 million to 113.88 million
people. This is a growth of 333.5% in 61 years. The
highest increase in the Philippines was recorded on
1916 with 3.39%. The smallest increase in 2021 with
1.51%.
