A circus tent that needs 5000 chairs is
being constructed for the city festival. If
the chair will be arranged in 10 rows,
how many chairs are there in a row? If
these are to be arranged in 100 rows,
how many chairs will there be in a row?
How about arranging the chairs in 1000
rows , how many chairs will there be in a
row?
If the chair will be
arranged in 10 rows, how
many chairs are there in a
row?
To find out how many chairs are there in a
row without using paper and pencil,
remember the following:
- When a number is divided by 10, all its
digits, except in the ones place,
become the quotient.
- The digit at the ones place becomes the
remainder, if there is any.
So, 5 000 divided by 10 we get
of 500 .
Meaning, there are 500 chairs
in a row of 10 rows.
You will notice that there is no remainder
since the digit at the ones place
If the chair will be
arranged in 100 rows, how
many chairs are there in a
row?
To find out how many chairs are there in a
row without using paper and pencil,
remember the following:
- When a number is divided by 100, all its
digits, except in the tens and ones place,
become the quotient.
- The number formed by the digits in the
tens and ones places becomes the remainder,
if there is any.
So, 5 000 divided by 100 we get
of 50.
Meaning, there are 50 chairs
in a row of 100 rows.
You will notice that there is no remainder
since the digit at the tens and ones place
are both 0.
If the chair will be
arranged in 1000 rows, how
many chairs are there in a
row?
Let us try to solve the problem mentally ,
remember the following:
- When a number is divided by 1000, all
its digits, except in the hundreds , tens and
ones place,become the quotient.

- The number formed by the digits in the

hundreds , tens and ones places becomes the
remainder, if there is any.
So, 5 000 divided by 1000 we get
of 5.
Meaning, there are 5 chairs
in a row of 1000 rows.
You will notice that there is no remainder
since the digit at the tens and ones place
are both 0.
Let us try to divide 3 472 by 10.
Let us solve the problem mentally.
- When a number is divided by 10, all its
digits, except in the ones place,
become the quotient.
- The digits in the ones places becomes
the remainder, if there is any.
So, 3 472 divided by 10
we get of 347 with a
remainder of 2.
Let us try to divide 3 472 by 100.
Let us solve the problem mentally.

- When a number is divided by 100, all its

digits, except in the tens and ones place,
become the quotient.
- The number formed by the digits in the
tens and ones places becomes the remainder,
if there is any.
So, 3 472 divided by 100
we get of 34 with a
remainder of 72.
Let us try to divide 3 472 by 1 000.
Let us solve the problem mentally.
- When a number is divided by 1 000, all
its digits, except in the hundreds , tens and
ones place,become the quotient.
- The number formed by the digits in the
hundreds , tens and ones places becomes the
remainder, if there is any.
So, 3 472 divided by
1000 we get of 3 with a
remainder of 472.
