stimulates the nervous system and is responsible for part
of the "kick" from nicotine-the drug-induced feelings of
pleasure and, over time, addiction.
NARCOTICS

pain. Narcotics are like opiates such as morphine
and codeine, but are not made from opium. They
bind to opioid receptors in the central nervous
system. Narcotics are now called opioids.

•problems with blood production, which may result in problems such as anemia, irregular heartbeat
and damage to the heart muscle
•forgetfulness and memory impairment
•indigestion
•stomach ulcers.
EXAMPLE OF INHALANTS
Inhalants include a wide variety of breathable
substances that produce mind-altering results and
effects. Examples of inhalants include Toluene, plastic
cement, paint, gasoline, paint thinners, hair sprays,
and various anesthetic gases.
Can inhalants cause confusion?
Exposure to high doses can cause confusion
and delirium. In addition, inhalant abusers may
experience dizziness, drowsiness, slurred speech,
lethargy, depressed reflexes, general muscle
weakness, and stupor.
How do you feel when you take
inhalants?
Most inhalants affect the central nervous system
and slow down brain activity. Short-term health
effects include slurred or distorted speech, lack
of coordination, euphoria (feeling high),
dizziness, and hallucinations.
