01 INTRODUCTION
Ethics are principles followed depending upon the moral responsibility that a person feels.
The study of related questions about moral ideals, character, policies and relationships of
people and organizations involved in technological activity, can be termed as Engineering
ethics.
An engineer whether he works individually or works for a company, has to go through
some ethical issues, mostly under the conditions such as, conceptualization of a product,
issues arising in design and testing departments, or may be on the issues involving the
manufacturing, sales and services. Questions related to morality also arise during
supervision and team works.
The ethical decisions and moral values of an engineer need to be considered because the
decisions of an engineer have an impact the products and services - how safe they are to
use, the company and its shareholders who believe in the goodwill of the company, the
public and the society who trusts the company regarding the benefits of the people, the
law which cares about how legislation affects the profession and industry, the job and his
moral responsibilities and about how the environment gets affected, etc

ETHICS 02
Ethics in engineering
•Engineering ethics is the field of system of moral principles that apply to the practice of
engineering. The field examines and sets the obligations by engineers to society, to their
clients, and to the profession. As a scholarly discipline, it is closely related to subjects
such as the philosophy of science, the philosophy of engineering, and the ethics of
technology.

IMPORTANT SKILLS FOR HOW TO
ETHICAL REASONING
Let us now discuss the important skills for ethical reasoning −

 Moral Reasonableness − The ability and willingness to be morally
reasonable that one should have while dealing such issues. Unless

one is willing and improve such ability, justice cannot be done.

any dangerous working conditions .
 Tolerance of diversity − One should have a broader perspective

reasoning. The acceptance of those differences is really important.  Hold frequent crew safety meetings.

 Moral hope − The moral conflicts can be resolved by using better

communication and having rational dialogue which is evident-based
and open-ended which is acceptable and appreciable by both the
parties.

 Integrity − The moral integrity has to be maintained. Being honest

and having strong moral principles helps one to resolve an issue in
an efficient manner. An individual also needs to consider other’s
professional life and personal convictions while solving a problem.
STEPS TO DEAL WITH ISSUES
Whenever there occurs an issue, one should possess a few skills in order to sort out the problem. The issues that
engineers face, have to be dealt with patience and few moral goals have to be kept in mind while dealing with such
issues. They are as follows −

 Moral Awareness − One should be able to recognize the moral problems and issues that occur in Engineering.
The analysis on the problem is necessary in order to differentiate and judge according to ethics or according to the
rules to follow.

 Cogent Moral Reasoning − In order to come to a conclusion on an issue, the argument has to be assessed and
comprehended. The argument on both sides has to be considered with all the probabilities and the nature of the
argument should be logical and moral.

 Moral Coherence − After having gone through all the logical and moral facts, consistent and comprehensive view
points are to be formed based upon a consideration of relevant facts.

 Moral Imagination − The moral issues and the practical issues have to be dealt separately. Alternative responses
are to be found out for dealing with moral issues while creative solutions should be found out for practical
difficulties.

 Moral Communication − The language to communicate about one’s moral views should be so precise and clear,
that the expression or words should not alter the original meaning.

Though one has all these moral goals, the ethical reasoning for achieving moral conduct with responsibility and
commitment is obtained by a few skills that are described below.

Foreign worker killed in construction site mishap in Johor Baru
JOHOR BARU: A 50-year-old Pakistani man was killed after he fell from the third floor of a building at a construction site in
Southkey here.
The victim was operating a forklift on the third floor when the mishap happened at about 10.30am on Friday (Dec 28).
Johor Baru (South) Deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Afzanizam Yahaya said that police were informed about the accident at about
10.45am on the same day by the construction site supervisor.
"The victim suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was then taken to Sultanah Aminah
Hospital (HSA) for a post-mortem.
"The postmortem result showed that the cause of death was due to multiple massive injury to the head, body and broken
backbone aside from crushed internal organs," he said when contacted on Saturday (Dec 29).
Supt Mohd Afzanizam added that the victim was a general worker who had no experience in handling a forklift.
"We believed the victim lost control of the vehicle before it rammed into a balustrade railing where it fell to the ground floor along
with the victim inside," he said.
The body of the victim is currently at HSA and is waiting to be taken by the Pakistan Embassy.
Meanwhile, Johor Occupational Safety and Health Department (Dosh) director Dasuki Mohd Heak said that initial investigation
had revealed that the victim is not a trained forklift driver and had never practised using the forklift in a safe way.
Dasuki said Dosh had also issued a stop-work order as well as notices regarding the matter.
He added that legal action would be taken if there was a violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (1994).
"Dosh views every accident seriously, especially those involving workers, the public or property," he added.
Dasuki added that such accidents could have been avoided if employers followed comprehensive risk assessment and
implemented safety measures outlined in the Guidelines for Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control
(HIRARC).

DISCUSSION

In this report, it is about ethics in engineering. There are several moral principles
that engineer should obey or obligate to society, to their clients and to the
profession. It is not only for engineer but everyone who are in engineering field.
Their moral responsibility should be considered to make decision this is because it
can give some impact on their product and services that they produced. They
should show their good behaviour which are respecting others, respecting the rights
of others, keeping promises, avoiding unnecessary problems to others, avoiding
cheating, showing a good attitudes and encourage others to work. While in this
report there are several steps to deal with issues especially when occurs an issue at
the site. They need to possess several skills in order to overcome the problem
CONLUSION

The Engineering code of ethics is important to bring the

maximum good or benefit to the society and to the enterprise as well.
The ethical code of ethics can improve the quality of working and can
secure the public interest towards any Engineering practice. It can lead
the Engineering towards the adoption of sustainable working. An
insurgency in ethics is expected to uproot the effective ethical selfishness
that justifies the market as the prevalent basic leadership device in our
general public. It is improbable to anticipate that Engineers will show
higher ethical direct than is the standard all through the group in which
they live. Manageable advancement, with its talk of intergenerational
value, is as a general rule a method for supporting business sector
profound quality and is insufficient to the arrangement of current natural
issues.
