INTRODUCTION

■ The word “Psychology" comes from the Greek word “Psyche”


meaning "breath, spirit, soul", and the Greek word “logia”
meaning “the study of something.”

■ Psychology is the study of behaviour and mind,


including conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well
as thought.

PSYCHOLOGY SCOPE
■ Clinical Psychology: It deals with mental, emotional and abnormal
behavior of the people. It seeks to help the people come out of their mental
disorders.
■ Cognitive Psychology: Focuses on higher mental processes such as
memory, thinking, reasoning, information processing, language, problem
solving, decision making, creativity and artificial intelligence.
PSYCHOLOGY SCOPE
 Development Psychology: It studies the human development, physical,
emotional, social, moral and personality development across the life span. It
focused on the child development and also devotes a great deal of research to
adolescence, adult and old age group.
 Social Psychology: while dealing with the social behavior on the one
hand, it is meant to help the people in solving their social problems on the
other. It is focused on how the role of society and its culture influence in the
development of one’s personality.
