FUTSAL

WHAT IS FUTSAL?

• Futsal is a FIFA-recognized form of small-sided

indoor football that originated in Uruguay in 1930. It is
played between two teams, each consisting of five
players on the pitch at any one time, including a
goalkeeper. Futsal is played on a hard court, slightly
larger than a basketball court, without walls or boards.
The game is played with a smaller, heavier, and lower-
bounce ball compared to traditional soccer.
HERE ARE SOME KEY FEATURES AND RULES OF FUTSAL:
FIELD AND EQUIPMENT:

• Futsal is played on a hard court surface marked by lines, with

touchlines as boundaries.

• The field size can vary but has a minimum dimension of 25m x 16m
and a maximum dimension of 42m x 25m.

• The ball used in futsal is smaller and heavier than a regular soccer
ball, allowing for better control and ball manipulation.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS:

• Each team consists of five players, one of whom is

the goalkeeper.

• Rolling substitutions are allowed, meaning players

can be substituted on and off the field without
stopping the game.
DURATION AND SCORING:

• The game is typically played in two periods of 20

minutes each, with a 15-minute break between
periods.

• Futsal is known for its fast pace, resulting in

higher scores compared to traditional soccer.
RULES AND GAMEPLAY:

• Futsal emphasizes ball control, passing, and quick

decision-making in small spaces.

• Fouls such as kicking, jumping, pushing, striking, holding,

spitting, and deliberate handling result in direct free kicks.

• Indirect free kicks are awarded for playing dangerously

and impeding.
• Accumulated fouls can lead to direct kicks from the second
penalty mark.

• The goalkeeper has four seconds to release the ball when in

possession.

• The goalkeeper cannot touch the ball again until it goes out
of play or is touched by an opponent after releasing it.
