6 Role of HVDC During Emergency:

 During emergency or unstable/abnormal grid condition due to storm or

any other internal or external cause, HVDC plays a vital role.
 HVDC station has a maximum ramp rate of 60 MW/minute, means power
can be ramped up or down at a rate of 60 MW per minute.
 When the grid is unstable, HVDC is utilized as a high speed swing
generator. If the grid frequency becomes very high, pole power is reduced
at a very high speed to control the grid frequency. Similarly its pole power
is ramped up very fast if the grid frequency becomes very low. Thus it
helps to prevent the grid failure.
