Environmental Education
• It refers to organized efforts to teach about
how natural environments function and,
particularly, how human beings can manage
their behavior and ecosystems in order to live
sustainably.
• It is a multi-disciplinary field integrating
disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics,
ecology, earth science, atmospheric science,
mathematics, and geography.
Environmental Education
• It was Jean-Jacques Rousseau who stressed
the importance of an education that focuses
on the environment.
• When we are educated about the
environment, we must identify our
responsibility as global citizens and make a
positive change for our planet earth which will
help us utilize our resources more efficiently
and without harming our environment as well.
Environmental education focuses on:
1. Think critically, ethically, and creatively when
evaluating environmental issues;
2. Make educated judgments about those
environmental issues;
3. Develop skills and a commitment to act
independently and collectively to sustain and enhance
the environment.
4. To enhance their appreciation of the environment;
resulting in positive environmental behavioral change.
What do you think is the
importance of
environmental education to
your course?

•Air pollution refers to the release
of pollutants into the air that are
detrimental to human health and
the planet as a whole.
What are the
effects of pollution
to our health?
Here are some harmful
effects of air pollution:
1. Skin Damage
2. Smog Effect
3. Acid Rain
4. Climate Change
5. Extinction of Different
Species
WEEK 4

RECYCLING
RECYCLING
Recycling is simply
breaking down materials
and reusing materials that
would otherwise be thrown
as trash.
WHY RECYCLING IS IMPORTANT?
Recycling is good for the
environment; in a sense, we are using old
and waste products that are of no use
and then converting them back to the
same new products. Since we are saving
resources and are sending less trash to
the landfills, it helps in reducing air and
water pollution.
BENEFITS OF RECYCLING
• It helps the environment and the
economy. It helps save space for trash
that are otherwise accumulating in
various landfills across the country.
• It helps reduce mining, processing and
refining, all of which contributes to
additional energy use and significant
water and air pollution.
BENEFITS OF RECYCLING
• Recycling helps litter overflow to be
minimum.
• It helps reduce carbon emissions.
• Recycling helps to preserve our
environment.
• It helps in earning money.
• It helps in saving energy needs.
WHAT ARE SOME WAYS IN
EFFECTIVELY RECYCLING
AND REDUCING NON-
BIODEGRADABLE AND
BIODEGRADABLE WASTE?
1. Throw away all the garbage in your house that
is of no use to you, or you think you can’t
utilize it in some other way.
2. Try to avoid the use of plastic bags and plastic
as much as possible. They not only pollute the
environment but also helps in filling landfills.
3. Buying recycled products could provide the
recycling industry with a huge boost.
4. Being resourceful with the materials around
us.
5. Use cloth items.
6. Buy in bulk.
7. Instead of one time use batteries,
use rechargeable batteries.

Community-based Projects
REDUCE
It includes all the activities
which lessen the generation of
solid waste into the environment. It
is a must to minimize unnecessary
use of artificial things or products
in our daily life.
REUSE
The usage of any product itself without
changing its form and composition is called
reuse. In other words, it is the act of
reclaiming the product by using it for another
purpose. It increases the life of waste and
reduces the production of waste. With this, it
helps to preserve the environment and its
resources.
RECYCLE
Recycling means recovering a
previously used object and giving it a
second life. The use of waste by
processing and modifying into
another form is called recycling. It is
done when it is not possible to reuse
and reduce.
RECOVER
Most of the materials
thrown in the garbage can be
used and processed in ways
other than being destroyed.
Sample projects that helps to take
care of the environment:
• Dig a vegetable plot.
• Plant trees.
• Organize a food day.
• Initiate a water bottle campaign.
• Establish a green club
