FIRES

What are fires?


A fire that spreads uncontrollably through rural or
urban vegetation and endangers people, property
and the environment. In the world, forest fires are
the most important cause of forest destruction.
¿What are the type of fires?
• COMMON SOLID: Class A fires are those that occur in solid fuels that
produce embers, for example: paper, cardboard, wood, plastics.

• FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS: Class B fires are those that areproduced in


liquid fuels, for example: vegetable oils, petroleum derivatives.

• GASES: Class C fires are those that occur in gases, for example: butane,
acetylene, methane, propane, etc.

• COMBUSTIBLE METALS: Class D fires are those that areproduced in


metals and alloys, for example: magnesium, potassium, sodium.
What are the causes of fires?
Fire occurs when the following three factors exist
simultaneously in time and space: A combustible
matter. An oxidizer, usually oxygen from the air.
Sufficient heat, which provides the energy necessary
to activate the reaction.
What are the consequences of fires?

Fire has a negative impact on all the components of the


ecosystem, both on the physical, biological and human
environment.
What should we do in cases of fires?
Protect yourself from fire by closing as many doors as you can. Put
wet rags in the cracks of the door to prevent the passage of smoke.
Call emergency services at 911 as soon as you can. Cover your nose
and mouth with a cloth or handkerchief, preferably damp, along the
floor.
What can we do to prevent fires?

Avoid throwing garbage, flammable materials and burning objects on


roads and paths. Do not throw glass, bottles, trash or any type of
combustible material. Don't light bonfires. If you find remains of
campfires, extinguish them with water and soil.
