How much x how many
There is x there are
Countable and uncountable nouns
Nouns can be countable or uncountable. Countable nouns can be counted, e.g. an apple,
two apples, three apples, etc. Uncountable nouns cannot be counted, e.g. air, rice, water, etc.
When you learn a new noun, you should check if it is countable or uncountable and note
how it is used in a sentence.
For example, you can count the number of glasses you have, but you can’t exactly count the
number of drops in a liquid. Therefore, glass is a countable noun and water [or milk, juice,
beer, etc] is an uncountable noun.
Nature phenomena, feelings and abstract stuff, in general, are also uncountable nouns.
