computer they control and the type of application they

• Allows two are more users to run programs at the same time
• Some OS permit hundreds or thousands of concurrent users

• This is the type of operating system that most of the laptops
and disktops use today.
• It allows single user to run several programs at same time

• It is used to control machinery, scientific instuments and
industrial systems
• Typically there is very little user interface capability
