tremendous courage.

• It was dangerous to be pregnant out of wedlock in those days – she

could have been killed.

• This is supported by Mary going to visit her cousin Elizabeth in the

hills as soon as she realises she was pregnant.

Mary A Disciple of the Kingdom
When Elizabeth said, “Hail Mary”
Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, Mary’s response is known
48
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; as the Magnificat.
49
for he who is mighty has done great things for me, Magnificat = mega praise
and holy is his name.
50
And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation. Mary is not meek in her
51
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
response. She shows
52
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones strength and faith;
and exalted those of humble estate; acceptance of God’s plan
53
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty. for her
54
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
Mary Disciple First and Last
She was present at the first miracle of Jesus (Wedding at Cana) and was
one of the few disciples who did not desert him on the cross. She was
with the disciples at Pentecost. Mary is seen as a role model for all
