Gerald Croft
Gerald Croft
This is the point when Gerald started to panic and the beginning of next story. Gerald had showed respect to Sheila as he
asked if Sheila mind, however this was not mainly because of love or what a good husband should do, this was due to his
uneasy and fear of being blamed too harshly by the Birlings.
Gentleman, good background, high-classed, polite, show respect, hypocritical(at the end of Act 1)
GERALD EXPERIENCE IN ACT 1
THIS IS THE PART WHEN GERALD DELIVERED THE RING CASE, WHICH SYMBOLIZE THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN HE AND SHEILA, AND MADE SHEILA VERY EXCITED AND TOUCHED BY HIS SURPRISE. UNTILL,
NOW, GERALD HAD BUILT CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD HUSBAND AND DUE TO HIS FAVORABLE
BACKGROUND, HE SEEMS TO BE THE ONE FOR SHEILA.
HOWEVER, THIS FAKE APPEARANCE BROKES DOWN ENTIRELY WHEN INSPECTOR TALKED ABOUT “DAISY
RENTON”
THE MOST PART OF THE ACT 2 WAS ABOUT GERALD AND DAISY RENTON. HE SHOWS THE FOLLOWING
CHARACTERISTICS:
- THOUGHTFUL, HE PROVIDED DAISY RENTON WITH PLACE TO LIVE AND GAVE HER SUPPORT
- HEROICAL, HE SAVED DAISY RENTON FROM GANGSTER,BUT ONLY OUT OF SIMPLE RESPONSIBILITY OF A
MALE
NOT OF AFFECTION BECAUSE HE BROKE UP WITH HER TO PROTECT HIS OWN CONVENIENCE AND
REPUTATION.
- UNTRUTHFUL, HE LIED TO SHEILA ABOUT BEING SO BUSY THAT DON’T HAVE TIME TO CARE ABOUT HER
