PRACTICAL

RESEARCH 1

WEEK 10 1st Semester

TR. MELISSA CAGUICLA

THE CHAPTERS 1-3
(Title and its Parts)

 Research papers usually have five

chapters with well-established sections in
each chapter. Readers of the paper will be
looking for these chapters and sections so
you should not deviate from the standard
format unless you are specifically
requested to do so by the research
sponsor.
 Most research studies begin with a written
proposal. Again, nearly all proposals follow the
same format. In fact, the proposal is identical to
the first three chapters of the final paper except
that it's written in future tense. In the proposal,
you might say something like "the researchers
will secure the sample from ...", while in the final
paper, it would be changed to "the researchers
secured the sample from ...". Once again, with
the exception of tense, the proposal becomes the
first three chapters of the final research paper.
 The most commonly used style for writing
research reports is called "APA" and the rules
are described in the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association. Any library
or bookstore will have it readily available. The
style guide contains hundreds of rules for
grammar, layout, and syntax. This paper will
cover the most important ones.
 Avoid the use of first-person pronouns. Refer to

yourself or the research team in third person.

Instead of saying "I will ..." or "We will ...", say
something like "The researcher will ..." or "The
research team will ...".

WRITING THESIS PROPOSAL
 Always starts with a title page and a table of
contents before the discussion of the first chapter
which is the Problem and Its Background
CHAPTER 1: THE PROBLEM AND ITS
BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION- The students explain the
background of the study and cites situation why
the study is being conducted. The student
researcher points out that the study is on/about a
special problem different from other problems.
The interplay of identified variables that may
cause a process is discussed.
 THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK- The
theoretical framework justifies the
rationale for the investigation. It gives
the search for new data and for
analyzing, interpreting and
synthesizing data. The framework
also cites the theory on which the
study is premised of theories in order
to establish the relationship among
variables in study.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM - The research
problem that the students is investigating must
relate to his or her interest, background and
experience. It is expected to yield findings that will
provide useful information in the area of his or her
investigation in the choice of research topics,
originality and relevance to the contemporary
problems and issues must be considered.
 The problem may not be about the
relationship among variables which the study aims
to establish and find out the extent of such
relationship.
HYPOTHESIS- Hypothesis states that
the relationship between variables
and this relationship must be tested. It
is tested statistically.

SIGNIFICANCEOF THE STUDY -

Student cites important of expected
outcomes of the investigation.
Research results will come up with
solution to a problem or encourage
further on the problem.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION - Coverage
of the study in terms of the concepts,
subjects, specific aspects or
phenomenon, treatment and time frame.
The who, what when, and where the
study will then be clarified
DEFINITION OF TERMS-Terms use to
the study in the statement of the
problem must be defined according how
they are used in the study. They should
be used contextually or operationally.
