BENIFTS OF ELECTRICITY

BY: CLASS 6-B GIRLS.

WHAT IS ELECTRICITY?

Electricity is the flow of electrical power or charge.

Electricity is all around us.
Electricity is a form of energy made up of charges that can produce light, heat and
motion.
In science, electricity is the movement of electrons between atoms.
The unit of electricity is kilowatt-hours (kWh)’
• Examples of current electricity:
a) starting a car
b) turning on a light
c) cooking on an electric stove
d) watching TV
IS ELECTRICITY USEFUL?

Electricity is a very useful form of energy.

Electricity is an essential part of modern life and important
to the economy.
Electrical energy is the most convenient form of energy for
most human uses.
Electricity is what lights up our classrooms, heats our
homes and lets us listen to our favourite music.
Without electricity, there will be disrupt in communication,
water and transportation.
Without energy, life would be impossible.
HOW IS ELECTRICITY USEFUL?

Electricity helps our life to be easier.

• People use electricity for:
a) lighting
b) heating
c) cooling
d) refrigeration
e) computers
WHAT THINGS USE ELECTRICITY?

Things that use electricity are:

• Bulb.
• TV.
• Air conditioner.
• Microwave.
• Refrigerator.
• Dishwasher.
• Hairdryer, etc.
HOW MUCH ENERGY DO WE USE?

A school: 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity.

At home: 886 kWh per month.
TV: A 24-inch CRT TV consumes 75 – 95 watts of
electricity per hour.
A store:14.3 kilowatt-hours.
A mall: 650 kWh per square meter each year.
WAYS TO SAVE ELECTRICITY

There are many ways to save electricity.

• Such as:
Renewable Energy: These energies are utilized for
supplying to load through the combination of power system
equipment besides power electronic devices.
Efficient Lighting: The use of electronic ballast in tube
lights instead of using an old electromagnet blast can also
reduce energy consumption.
LED Lights: Replacing fluorescent and incandescent with
low power led lights is a fine approach to saving energy.
FUN FACTS

1. Electricity travels at the speed of light, which is 186,000 miles per second.
2. Before electricity was a way of life, ancient Egyptians were aware that lightning and shocks from
electric fish were very powerful. They used to refer to these fish as the “Thunders of the Nile.”
3. Electricity can be created using water, wind, the sun, and even animal waste.
4. Electricity is sometimes used as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), where patients are given
electrically induced seizures in order to treat psychiatric illnesses.
5. Iceland is the country that uses the most electricity annually. Their consumption is about 23% more
than the U.S.
6. Static electricity occurs when the electrons from one object jump to another object.
7. Electricity was first discovered in 600BC.
8. In the 1880’s, there was a “war of currents” between Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Tesla helped
invent AC current and Edison helped invent DC current, and both wanted their currents to be
popularized. AC won the battle because it’s safer and can be used over longer distances.
