INDUCTIVE COUPLING/ ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION
Inductive coupling is a wireless energy transfer method.
It relies on electromagnetic induction to transfer power or signals.
It requires close physical proximity between two coils for efficient operation.
DISADVANTAGE
Limited range for wireless transfer.
Sensitivity to coil alignment.
Energy losses as heat.
Potential electromagnetic interference.
Most of the transmitted power is wasted.
MODIFICATION
Resonant induction coupling relies on the principles of electromagnetic induction. It involves two coils of
wire, often referred to as the primary coil (transmitter) and the secondary coil (receiver). When an
alternating current (AC) is applied to the primary coil, it generates an oscillating magnetic field around it.
This magnetic field induces a voltage in the secondary coil, which can be used to power or charge a device.
EFFICIENCY
By operating at the resonant frequency, resonant induction coupling systems can achieve higher levels of
efficiency compared to non-resonant systems. This means less energy is lost as heat, and more energy is
effectively transferred from the transmitter to the receiver.
Applications
Resonant induction coupling is used in a variety of applications, including wireless charging for smartphones, electric
vehicles (EVs), and medical devices.
Safety
Resonant coupling systems are designed with safety in mind. For example, they are generally configured to minimize
electromagnetic interference (EMI) and exposure to electromagnetic fields. Additionally, modern systems often include
safety features like foreign object detection to prevent unintended energy transfer to nearby objects.
Challenges:
While resonant induction coupling offers many advantages, it also has some limitations. It is generally effective only over
relatively short distances (compared to other wireless power transfer technologies like resonant magnetic resonance
coupling). The efficiency of the system can decrease as the distance between the coils increases.
