Terbuka
Saluran terbuka adalah saluran
dimana air mengalir dengan muka
air bebas. Pada semua titik di
sepanjang saluran, tekanan air,
adalah sama, yang biasanya adalah
tekanan atmosfer. Pengaliran melalui
suatu pipa (saluran tertutup) yang
tidak penuh (masih ada muka air
bebas) masih termasuk aliran
melalui saluran terbuka (Triatmojo,
2003)

1. Waktu sebagai kriteria
a. Aliran permanen/tunak (steady flow) merupakan aliran
dalam saluran terbuka yang memiliki kedalaman aliran,
tidak berubah atau bisa dikatakan konstan dalam suatu
selang waktu tertentu.
b. Aliran tidak permanen/tak tunak (unsteady flow) merupakan
aliran dalam saluran terbuka yang memiliki kedalaman air
berubah sesuai dengan waktu.

2. Ruang sebagai kriteria
a. Aliran seragam (uniform flow) merupakan aliran dengan saluran
terbuka yang memiliki kedalaman aliran sama pada setiap
penampang saluran.
b. Aliran berubah (non-uniform flow/ varied flow) merupakan saluran
dalam saluran terbuka yang memiliki kedalaman aliran berubah
sepanjang saluran.
• Berubah tiba-tiba (rapidly varied) aliran yang kedalaman
alirannya berubah tiba-tiba pada jarak yang cukup pendek.
• Berubah lambat laun (gradually varied) aliran yang kedalaman
alirannya berubah lambat laun pada jarak yang relatif panjang.
