SYSTEM
HARROLD JAY D.
FATALLA,MPA
-a slotted connector use to connect to the
motherboard. The 24 pin slotted connector has
two rows of 12-pins each, and the 20-pin
slotted connector has two rows of 10-pins
each.
AUXILLIARY POWER CONNECTOR
4 PIN – 8 PIN
-has two rows of two four pins and supplies
power to all areas of the motherboard. The 4-
pin to 8-pin Auxiliary power connector has the
same shape as the main power connector, but
smaller.
FLOPPY CONNECTOR

- 4 pin connector used to supply power to

floppy drives, card reader drives and other
similar devices.
SATA CONNECTOR

- connectors for devices using serial

advanced technology attachment (SATA)
interfaces, such as hard drives.
OPTICAL DRIVE (CDOR DVD
ROM/ODD)
- a device that uses photo diodes to
detect reflecting lights on optic discs
- Uses laser to read or write data.
FLOPPY DISK DRIVE/ FLOPPY
DRIVE /FDD
- a disk drive that can read and write to
floppy disk.
- a computer disk drive that enables a
user to save data to removable
diskettes.
HARD DISK DRIVE/ HARD
DRIVE /HDD
- a disk drive that can read and write
to floppy disk.
- a computer disk drive that enables a
user to save data to removable
diskettes.
INTEGRATED DRIVE
ELECTRONICS(IDE)
-generally, it refers to the types of
cables and ports used to connect some
hard drives and optical drives to each
other and to the motherboard.
- a standard type of connection for
storage device in a computer.
RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY
(RAM)
Personal computer memory module.
A piece of hardware that allows stored
data to be accessed randomly. Its
function is to store data temporarily.
CENTRAL PROCESSING
UNIT (CPU)
Often refers to as the brain of the
computer.
Handle all instructions it receives from
hardware and software running in the
computer.
EXPANSION CARD (ADD-ON-
INTERFACE CARD)
An electronic board or card added on a
personal computer so the computer will
have new function.
An expansion card is used to give a
computer additional capabilities, such as
enhanced video performance via
graphics card.
VIDEO CARD(GRAPHIC
CARD/DISPLAY ADAPTER)
A hard component use to generate and
display the output images to a computer
monitor.
MOTHER BOARD
• A printed circuit board that is the foundation of the
computer, located at the bottom of the computer case.
• It locates power to the CPU, RAM and all other
computer hardware components.

Most importantly, the motherboard

allows hardware components to
communicate with one another.
CPU SOCKET
• Holds the CPU
• Allows the processor to be
connected to the motherboard.

MEMORY SLOT
• Allows computer memory
(RAM) to be inserted into the
computer
• There may be 2-4 memory slots
and determine the type of RAM
used with the computer.
CPU FAN
• An electronic device that
keep the processor cool

COMPLEMENTARY METAL
OXIDE SEMICONDUCTOR (CMOS)
• An on-board, battery powered
semiconductor chip inside computers that
stores information which ranges from the
system time and date to system hardware
setting for your computer.
BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM (BIOS)

• A chip located on all motherboards that

allow you to access and set up your
computer system at the most basic level.
BACK PANEL
• The portion of the motherboard that allows you to
connect external devices such as your monitor
speaker, keyboard, mouse and others.
COMPUTER CABLES

VIDEO GRAPHICS ARRAY (VGA) CABLE

- This cable consists of a plugin in which there

are 15 pins which also includes three rows. In
each of the three rows, it contains 5 pins. Now,
you need to fit one end of this cable to your
monitor and the other end to the CPU of the
computer system.
HIGH-DEFINITION MEDIA INTERFACE

which is called as HDMI cable is one of the types of

computer cables. The users are able to transmit the high-
definition audio and video information signals easily with
the help of this cable. The process will not hamper the quality
of images. Another advantage of using these cables is that
you will be able to send crystal clear images without any
trouble.
An important kind of computer cable used for
networking is known as Ethernet cable. The system
administrators utilize such cables for connecting
switches, computer machines to LAN (Local area
network).
For connecting mouse and keyboard to your computer
system, PS/2 cable is been used which is known as a
standard cable. This kind of cable is good with length
so that users can easily work on their system. PS/2
cable consists of 6 pins with a round connector. In
today’s world, this cable is been replaced by USB
cables which are easy to use and connect on any of the
systems.
A widely used computer cable called USB (Universal
serial bus). It is one of the most used types of computer
cable in different departments. Nowadays, users are
preferring this kind of cable for connecting all common
devices like mice, keyboards, printers, wireless adapters,
flash drives, and many more.
