STUDY SCHEDULE

STUDY TIME
Being successful at the university
level will probably require a more
careful utilization of time than the
student has ever achieved before.
The student is subsequently
involved in a full-time occupation.
Many students find that this full-
time job should be supplemented
by a part-time job in addition to
other family and social
responsibilities which add a great
deal more time. A common
student complaint is that there is
just not enough Time to go
around.
The job of being a university
student can be carried either
efficiently or inefficiently. The way
we use time is a matter of HABIT
patterns. One of the best
techniques for developing more
efficient habits of time use is to
prepare a TIME SCHEDULE. The
work habits of people who have
shown outstanding success show a
well-designed pattern of schedule.
When a person has several duties
confronting him simultaneously
he often will fail to do any of
them.
The purpose of scheduling is not to make a slave of the student,
but to free him from the scholastic inefficiency and anxiety
that is a function of wasted time and inadequate planning
and hasty last-minute study, etc.
 PLAN ENOUGH TIME FOR STUDY: The University expects the students to
average two hours per day in studying. This is an appropriate and realistic
guideline.

 STUDY AT THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY: A student should schedule certain hours
Which are used every day in a HABITUAL, SYSTEMATIC WAY. Having regular hours
at least five days a week make it easier to habitually maintain an active
approach to study.

 PLAN STUDY PERIODS TO FOLLOW CLASS PERIODS: The next best procedure
is to schedule for study immediately after the lecture. You have 48 hours to review
the lectures done during that timing. Exceeding that timing, your attention
will drop.

 SPECIFY YOUR COURSES: A student should specify the


particular course he will study rather than marking
“study” on his schedule.
 SPACE STUDY PERIODS: 30 to 50 minutes of study for each course works best.

 RELAXATION PERIODS: 5 minutes pause should be scheduled between


study periods. It’s more efficient to study for a definite period of time,
and then stop for a few minutes, than attempt to study on indefinitely.

 FLEXIBILITY: This is important!


Lack of flexibility is the major reason why schedules fail.

 OVER-SCHEDULE: Students tend to over-schedule themselves.

 SAME SPACE: It’s extremely important to keep the same place


every day for your study time.
