Grade 9 Mathematics
Learning Objectives

Learners should be able to:

 Define trapezoid;
 Prove theorems on isosceles trapezoid;
and
 And solve problems related to isosceles
trapezoid.
Isosceles
Trapezoid
Isosceles Trapezoid

Isosceles trapezoid it is a trapezoid

where the top and bottom are parallel
and the remaining two sides are of
equal length. In an isosceles trapezoid,
the top and bottom are not equal in
length, but they are parallel to each
other. The two sides that are equal in
length are not parallel to each other.
Theorem 7 of Isosceles Trapezoid

Theorem 7. The base angles of an

isosceles trapezoid are congruent.

A trapezoid is isosceles if and only

if the base angles are congruent.
By looking at this figure, we notice
the base angles are congruent, so
this is an isosceles trapezoid
because the base angles are
congruent.
Theorem 7 of Isosceles Trapezoid

Example
ABCD is a trapezoid.

If ∠A = (9x – 6) ° and ∠B= (2x +

8)°, find the value of x and the
measure of each angle.

m∠A = m∠B
Theorem 8 of Isosceles Trapezoid

Theorem 8. opposite angles of

an isosceles trapezoid are
supplementary.

∠F and ∠E are supplementary

∠A and ∠T are supplementary

If ∠T = 85°, what is the

measurement of ∠F, if the theorem
stated that opposite angles of an
isosceles trapezoid are
supplementary.
Theorem 8 of Isosceles Trapezoid

Theorem 9. A trapezoid is
isosceles if and only if the
diagonals are congruent.
Example:
Given: BD = 7x and CA = 2x +
5 , Find x, BD and CA

BD = CA

Directions: Check if the trapezoid

is an isosceles by verifying that
their diagonals are congruent.

Find x.
EVALUATION
SEATWORK!!!

Direction: Answer the following.

Given the isosceles trapezoid MATH

A.If = 36 cm, what is the

measurement of ?
B.If = 2y - 3 and = y+5. What is
the value of y? How long is each
diagonal?
C.If ∠H = 75°, what is the
measurement of ∠T?
If ∠H = 75°, what is the
measurement of ∠M?
