Problem Statement…Business/Customer Impact:

• PTO Driveshaft U-joints (2T-3013) can prematurely fail on certain
793F, 795F (AC), and 797F trucks. These failures can be detected
by noise, vibration, looseness in the u-joint, large amounts of
grease on the outside of the u-joints, and paint discoloration due to
heat build up. There have also been reports of loss of lubrication.
If undetected, there may be major contingent damage. Failures
are occurring between 1,000 - 10,000 hours with the average
failure occurring around 4,500 hours. Failures may occur in
various environments. Failures are more susceptible to long uphill
haul cycles or applications where there are high cooling fan loads.
Failure Mode(s):
• Premature wear via brinelling of Spider Bearings (2T-3013). Can
also be detected as noise and vibration from the PTO driveshaft
(292-0268)
Interim Containment Action:
• Replace 2T-3013 with 390-8908. See PS52320
Root Causes:
• It is a system issue between the interference fit of 2T-3013 with
the pump yoke, the increased radial stiffness of the pump yoke,
and the high speed uni-directional application of the pump
driveshaft.
PCA:
• Same as ICA. Please use 390-8908 (PS52320)
Recent Activities:
• Reviewed failed iron and found wear patterns that match FEA
results. This validates the root cause

Q: Alex Colquhoun: Can efforts be made to commonize the release software updates,
improve the clarity of the flash files that need to be install, and ensure that all of the needed
steps for calibration are noted before returning a machine to service.

A: Andy Law - A project is being run to ensure the product group is better engaged with the
software team, ensure the rigor of the software testing, and many other improvements. This
concern will be given team.
