Different types of transport appeal to


different types of tourists:
• Air, water, rail and road.
• Factors affecting transport choice:
- cost: cost-effective/cheaper
- time: time-effective/quick
- sustainability- more eco-friendly, less carbon emissions
- comfort and enjoyment

Air transport:
• Used by domestic and international tourists
• Often quicker than travel by water, rail and road.
• Appeals to all types of tourists who want to travel
long distances.
• Air travel can be expensive.
• Budget airlines have made some flights cheaper-
which has increased the number of tourists
choosing to fly.
• Budget flights are often short-haul flights.

Water transport:
• Mostly used for cruise holidays.
• Ferries (boats and ships) link places. They
carry tourists and vehicles such as cars and
buses between destinations.
• Ferries appeal to families who want to
travel to a holiday destination in their own
car and are an efficient way to cross
harbours and rivers.
• Water taxis- small boats to transport
tourists from one place to another.
• Gondolas- traditional boats used by tourists
in the city destination of Venice.
