DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR: PERSPECTIVE FROM MIDSAYAP MUNICIPALITY’S RESIDENTS INTRODUCTION • High poverty, unemployment, income inequality, low education, social status, and modern society significantly influence delinquent behavior, as individuals struggle to find jobs and engage in criminal activities. According to Miller, 2015 those from lower socioeconomic classes are more likely than more affluent people to be arrested, found guilty, and sent to prison for their crimes. Criminal activity is more prevalent in affluent areas, while poorer ones may cause stress and mental health issues, (Haider and Ali, 2015). PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKGROUND
• Criminal thinking and behavior begin early in life,
with population growth, poverty, and hunger being the main causes of the Philippines' crime rate, leading to common offenses like stealing and shoplifting. (Kocher & Leitner, 2015). PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKGROUND
• From the viewpoint of the locals, this research offers
insights into the sociodemographic factors influencing delinquent behavior, (Akinbobola ,2021). • In this study, the researcher is interested in finding out the influence of socio-demographic variables such as age, gender, education, employment status, and inequality income on delinquent behavior. PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKGROUND
• The Municipality of Midsayap has not extensively studied socio-
demographic variables, which could have significant influence in likelihood to commit a deviant act, implications for policing and intervention program development. This study aimed to clarify misconceptions and overgeneralizations about criminals, such as the belief that most thefts are committed by unemployed individuals or broken families. The findings can be utilized as future references in sociodemographic influences on delinquent behavior and can be valuable for future research in the field of criminology. REFERENCES • Miller, B. L.
