Balanced Score Card 3

What is BALANCED SCORECARD?

Balanced Scorecard a strategic planning and

management system used to align business
activities to the vision and strategy of the
organization, improve internal and external
communications, and monitor organization
performance against strategic goals.
Purpose Of Balanced Scorecard 4

• The scorecard can address the shortcomings of the traditional management

system i.e. the inability to link the company’s long-term strategy with its
short term financial goals.
• The scorecard lets managers introduce four new processes that help the
company make that important link;
1. Translating the vision – helps managers build a consensus concerning a
company’s strategy and express it in terms that can guide action at local
level.

2. Communicating and linking – calls for communicating the strategy at all

levels of the organization and linking it with unit and individual goals.

3. Business planning – enables business to integrate their business plans

with their financial plans.

4. Feedback and learning – gives companies the capacity for strategic

learning which consists of gathering feedback, testing the hypotheses on
which a strategy is based, and making necessary adjustments.

IMPLEMENTATION OF BALANCED
SCORECARD
The balanced scorecard is not a piece of
software. However, performance management
software can be used to get the right performance
information to the right people at the right time.
For any software to work effectively it should be:
Compliant with your current technology platform
Always accessible to everyone - everywhere
Easy to understand/update/communicate
Feedback is essential and should be ongoing and
contributed to by everyone within the organization.

An African Morning

‘Every morning in Africa, an antelope wakes up.

It knows it must outrun the fastest lion,

Or it will be killed.

Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.

It knows it must outrun the slowest antelope,

Or it will starve.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or an antelope;

When the sun comes up, you’d better be running.’
