EXPLAIN EXTEND 18
How do entrepreneurs create
product models of their ideas?

19
Prototypes Based on What They Represent

Functional prototype
This type is designed to imitate the function of
the real product as close as possible no matter
how different it may look from the actual
product.

ENGAG EXPLOR EVALUAT

EXPLAIN EXTEND 20
Prototypes Based on What They Represent

Display prototype
This type is designed with more focus on the
appearance rather than on the functions. This
prototype may or may not function but should
represent the same look like the actual product.

EXPLAIN EXTEND 21
Prototypes Based on What They Represent

Miniature
The miniature is a smaller version of the
product that is focused on the functional and
display aspects of the product.

EXPLAIN EXTEND 22
Prototypes Based on How They Are Used

Throwaway prototype
This type will eventually be discarded or thrown
away rather than becoming part of the actual
product. Throwaway prototypes are also called
close-ended prototypes.

EXPLAIN EXTEND 23
Prototypes Based on How They Are Used

Evolutionary prototype

basic but strong type that can further improve
and build to form an actual product.

EXPLAIN EXTEND 24
How do entrepreneurs plan the
product’s prototype?

25
Steps in Building the Product’s Prototype
